Any idea how long you have to have the line? Is it unlocked to begin with? How long do you have to keep it active? Is this available in stores too?
I have a line that is eligible for upgrade, I want to buy this phone for that line, and then put the pixel 3 that is on that line now back on the line and have a spare pixel 4 5g for when one of my 4xls break. If i do buy it for that line, will I be uneladgable for upgrades for a period of time?
Asurion insurance through sprint can't get the 4xl to replace a broken one anymore, so when my last one broke they wanted to replace it with a samsung 10+, I told them no way, and told them my bill credits won't work and it is a $350 phone. The fair market value of the 4xl is $850, plus $85 tax, minus the $275 insurance means they are sending me a $650 check so I can go out and replace the 4xl. They also wanted me to buy a phone and submit a receipt and they would reimburse, I told them I can't afford to be without $800 for a few weeks, so they agreed to the check process.
So I am getting a 4a 5g which is a marginal upgrade to the 4xl. I have 3 more of the 4xls on my plan, so if I have more problems with any of those ones, I am going to do the same thing.
I also got screwed by the $29 cracked screen replacement deal. I asked when I signed up if the pixel phone would be compatible with the $29 cracked screen replacement plan, and they said yes. I read online that it might not be, so i called to cancel, they assured me that it was covered, I made them talk to a manager, talk to asurion, and put notes on my account.
I was really lucky that I did. When my wife's screen cracked, they all told me its $275 not $29. SO, it took 3 hours and talking to 6 people, I had to get asurion to conference in the Sprint Rep, and then we both explained the situation, They finally found the notes that they put on my account verifying everything. Then I got escalated twice to Sprint managers, they finally admitted to give me a credit for the difference and kept telling me all they could do was $20 a month for 12 months, credit, and finally agreed to get it done it 24 hours so I can afford the $275 deductible. I was not about to give them a $250 loan and guarantee my service to them for 12 months.
Rumor out this past week is yes but still sketchy at best esp. when it appears it looks identical to this 4a5G in every physical way.
The only thing it could improve on is 90Hz screen.

I was under the impression that the Pixel 5a was also only 4g - no 5g service

Your guess is as good as mine but IMO, it would be a mistake to launch a phone now at any price segment & not include a 5G chip.
The 5G deployment by all carriers is well underway & is not mythical anymore.
I am routinely enjoying 350Mbps & got as high as 400 today on TMO in my area & there is no going back

Qualifying services required.
I'm not the original poster, but it literally says on the website "Pay in Full $349"
$399+tax all in, including one month service and $10 for the SIM card.

You can do the pay in full on post paid too, you don't have to do the monthly
