Chatted with a rep to get me registered for the military discount. Saved about $50 on my order. Just use the chat function. Save some time and create and account first so they can just edit the account you created.

With crypto still booming and general lack of parts, I dont expect prices to be going down anytime in the next 2 months.

The free falling of Cryptocurrency price will likely affect the price of graphic card.
If you look at the trend of Ethereum back in late 2017 to end of 2018 which go up crazy in few months and then drop 90% in value. And compare to the huge increase of the price in the last few months and around 30% drop in last 7 days, what happen now may be similar to what happen in 2017 and 2018. We may be in the beginning of a big correction down to the price back in Oct last year(?)

HUGE difference in performance with the 3000 series Nvidia chips. But it also kinda depends on what wattage these are running on. But given the same chassis, it should still be a significant improvement.
Thanks for the quick reply. I have been searching all weekend for the laptop with this config and finally settled for the one at Newegg due to price and availability. I think I'll cancel, then order this and wait until April to receive.

I just ordered from Newegg HP OMEN 15.6" Customized Gaming Laptop | 8-Core AMD Ryzen 7 4800H | 16GB DDR4 RAM 512GB SSD | FHD IPS 144Hz Display | GeForce GTX 1660Ti Graphics for $1159.29 total (no tax) ships Mar 2. I have been checking slickdeals all weekend and came back after the order was placed.
Should I cancel for this deal with the $1150 config?
Will I even notice the performance difference? Which one would have the better battery life?
I'd cancel that one now. There was already a Newegg deal for a much better price even though it's now expired: https://slickdeals.net/f/14864239-msi-alpha-15-a4dek-005-15-6-144-hz-amd-ryzen-7-4800h-amd-radeon-rx-5600m-16-gb-ddr4-1-tb-ssd-for-799-ar-fs?v=1 and that one had a 1TB SSD.

And this deal for a similar price as you paid with a 3070 and a 5800H blows away that one.

I got this one for a little under $1600:

https://www.gentechpc.com/product...2130sh.htm

I know it's more expensive, but it is 100% a Max P 3070 with 16 GB of 3200 RAM, and a 5800H... and it's not HP. Don't have many good experiences with HP.

Thanks Tommy7154. I probably saw the MSI but preferred the HP deal. I have searched a lot since Friday. Finally got the guts pull the trigger and immediately came back to Slickdeals and had buyers remorse. LOL. Cancelled and pulled trigger on this HP deal.
I appreciate the feedback.

And no tax as well for some states. But even then almost $200 more with comparable config. Though, probably better cooling and around 10-15% better performance.

It's much different than 3 years ago, however.

I heard Max P's were about 30% better in performance than Max Q though.

Damn I just got a laptop with a 5600m (basically a 1660ti) and deals like this make me wonder if should have just spent the extra $400 or so to get a 3070...

I tried it and it didn't work. Military discount you say...? Going to have to look into that.
I have an hp laptop with an i5, 1660ti and 16gb ram and I've been very happy with the performance and graphics quality. $400 is quite a bit more where on a relatively small screen you may not realize the difference. If this were a desktop with a 3070 that would be a different story, but laptops are limited with power and heat constraints throttling the hardware.

Great deal, but ship date kills it. By that time, we may be looking at lower prices for similar components. Yes, I understand most stuff is backed ordered right now...

Do you guys think it is risky getting an HP, regardless?
