this or macbook air for $1000?
Just picked up the Macbook Air and I'm really enjoying it (this coming from a long time Windows user). The big difference seems to be the great graphics card in the Omen but it's almost twice as heavy.

Guess it depends on what you're planning on doing - gaming would be the Omen of course.

I have an hp laptop with an i5, 1660ti and 16gb ram and I've been very happy with the performance and graphics quality. $400 is quite a bit more where on a relatively small screen you may not realize the difference. If this were a desktop with a 3070 that would be a different story, but laptops are limited with power and heat constraints throttling the hardware.
Well I tried to cancel the OMEN and they gave me the run around about it already being built. I'll just have to sell this MSI Alpha 5600M one I just got, or maybe give it to my son so he has a gaming laptop.

doubt it would be the same price though, this is a great price, bordering on price mistake

Tried to cancel ~20 minutes after placing an order to make some changes and the only option I found was a text chat with representative). They asked me a few questions and proceeded with the cancellation request. Refund comes in 3-5 days.

Also a few months ago I placed an order at HP which was in "ORDER ASSEMBLY" state for over 3 weeks and I still was able to cancel it w/o any issues or restocking fee with a customer service.

Looks like a sweet deal. Here's the main product page which gives some more detail on the laptop: https://store.hp.com/us/en/pdp/om...l1f4av-1#! Some things that jump out at me are:
  • RAM is DDR4-3200
  • Intel® Wi-Fi 6 AX200 (2x2) and Bluetooth® 5 combo (Supporting Gigabit data rate)
  • HDMI 2.1
  • Audio by Bang & Olufsen; DTS:X® Ultra; Dual speakers; HP Audio Boost
  • HP Wide Vision 720p HD camera with integrated dual array digital microphones
  • 6-cell battery, supports fast charge: approximately 50% in 45 minutes
HDMI 2.1 is nice to game on gysnc hdmi 2.1 tv like lg oled. I didn't expect the omen to have it. I remember CES saying only 1 or 2 laptops had it and it wasn't omen.

**So custom built laptop can be returned? Also refund policy says: 15% restocking fee and cannot refuse delivery.

I remember reading these thinner omens are max-q.

Price seems reasonable. Keep in mind the $1800 Asus has the Ryzen 9. When you spec the HP out to 16GB RAM, 1 TB SSD, and QHD, you end up at $1560. So you're at $260 cheaper with the Ryzen 7.

It seems like a good deal and not a price mistake for the HP.

Wow this is amazing deal. If I didn't buy the Zephyrus G15 today i'd probably be all over this. The QHD screen and nicer body design are amazing tho. Not sure if they're worth the extra $600 tho. Really scratching my head here...
I was going to wait for holidays 2021 to pickup a g15 but saw an open box and picked it up yesterday for $1,588 after taxes and rewards earned (or I was going to wait for other unreleased 3xxx/ryzen laptop with Max-P like the legion. Strix g17 has more raw power for $1800 but I value battery life & portability so that is probably not an option). So far only QC problem I have is the USB controller issue (Seems to be a software issue rather than hardware & might get fixed?). I just compared the 2 specs. Similar in price when all speced out, BF cashback website, and without perks at work $50 off. Advantages of g15 are:

1) 90Wh vs 76Wh battery.
2) 4.2lbs vs 5.43 lbs or 1.23 lbs lighter and slightly thinner
3) Ryzen 9 5900hs vs ryzen 7 5800h (5% faster on userbenchmark but that is not all that accurate site?)
4) 300 nits 100% dci-p3 pantone certified display (looks very good) vs 300 nits
G14 comes with 1tb ssd. This can be configured to 512gb ssd (-$90 from 1tb ssd. 1tb nvme m.2 ssd was $90 FP on SD).

I was debating whether to downgrade. More money can be saved with the FHD + 5600h + 3060 config ($1176 after tax) or QHD+5600h+3060 config ($1380 after tax, or FHD + rtx 3070 ($1360 after tax). But if the best deal for this is rtx 3070 max-q and rtx 3070 max-q can handle most games at 1440p maxed (1440p also look sharper for other things), it's a good idea to go with QHD as a long term purchase (although laptop becomes an expensive long term purchase & getting close to that FP dell rtx 3080 desktop). I did return a rtx 2060 max-q g14 that developed fan clicking so asus QC is not the greatest. Although the 3070 is a max-q (still really good for ray tracing. DLSS 2.0 & dynamic boost helps), i think it's a worthy upgrade from rtx 2060. I remember benchmark shows rtx 3060 being only 15-20 fps more and 6gb vram could be a bottleneck for texture packs, higher res, etc. In the end I decided to keep the g15 for more.

Well it's worth trying games you like on both and seeing if the difference is worth keeping the omen or returning it. If you can afford it, there's no doubt it'll be worth the money, this is still a great deal!

I got this one for a little under $1600:

https://www.gentechpc.com/product...2130sh.htm

I know it's more expensive, but it is 100% a Max P 3070 with 16 GB of 3200 RAM, and a 5800H... and it's not HP. Don't have many good experiences with HP.
Do you know what their fulfillment timeframe is? I didn't see it on their site. Thanks!

Someone posted in another thread that the rep said another 3-4 weeks. He'll find out in 2 weeks I guess.

Also, HP delayed my order on the previous OMEN 3090 deal. Pushed it back until the 3/12. We'll see on that too..
