Yes the 20v is probably stronger and more future proof, but they are also 50% more expensive.
This will do just fine for the average joe. My unit is probably 10 years old, 1 battery did died, the 2nd one is still running and the tool works just like new.
Same here. Almost 10 yrs ago bought the nonbrushless dewalt drill and driver set to replace a dead black and decker 18v. The pair each had way more power than the bd, and we did much drywall work overhead without nearly the sore arms as before. Later I started expanding into 20v tools, and use them for heavy duty projects, but just drywalled a room downstairs and it was all 12v. I have added to the tools by adding a brushless drill and an impact wrench over the past year, and with this deal, i now have the recip saw and 5ah battery. That battery will probably only ever get used on the saw because i have plenty of 1.5 and 2ah batteries for the drills/driver and they do last plenty ling enough and are quick charging. So my thoughts in summary is 20v lines are great when you're really needing them for the power, but for everything else, why bother? These do the job well.
They don't have the free generator sites like they used to but some still sell them. $1.99 for the site I use. Ebay usually has them for $4.
Right. Not cross compatible at all.

I thought the same but there is apparently an increase in power from the larger batteries. It wouldn't really be noticed on the drill/ impact, but it is on the more power hungry tools like a circular saw.
I grabbed the 5 ah 20v battery deal for $60 for this reason.

But you talking about the 20 volt line then? You would probably notice the change going from older 18650 cells to the new 21700 cells which allow a faster discharge when needed....
I've seen YouTube videos on it where they have identical tools with different AH batteries (or use the same tool and swap battery).
Consistently the higher AH batteries bore holes/loosened bolts faster than the lower AH battery, even though in theory the higher batteries "should" just have longer run time.
I don't remember; but if I had to guess it wasn't. Most likely 20v.
That said, I would expect the same result for 12v.
Realistically, if someone is buying 12v tools it's probabaly for light work, so they likely wouldn't notice a difference in power.
I just wanted to mention that I was under the impression AH was strictly run time, but there's actually a considerable torque/power boost
The 12v Extreme impact driver is my favorite.
If the price in cart is $105, will the coupon work? Or do I have to have $120 + in cart before the coupon can ben used?

Why don't you try it and report back.
