  • Make sure you install the S2721DGF drivers from dell and use the .icc profile that comes with said drivers.
  • Also very important to set the color mode to 10bit from 8bit in your GPU display control.

This monitor comes HIGHLY Rated by the Youtube channel Hardware Unboxed. They are extensive in their testing. Watch their episode on this monitor if you want all the details. This is the 2nd lowest price this monitor has ever been at. Snap this up if you can!

Wait I havent been looking at Monitors for a bit but isnt this the same monitor that would be around $300?
Be sure you are looking at the letters after "2721". This is the DGF model. Others are H models. You can see them side by side at dells website.

Pulling the trigger. I have been trying to find a good monitor for both gaming and video editing where I can do some super basic HDR color grading (trusting the scopes). I know this won't be the best for the HDR, but I don't think there are any good sub-$1k monitors for that at the moment.

I'm familiar with this model (I own the 75hz version), but
the M27Q is still $100 cheaper, which is pretty significant considering they appear to have nearly identical specs (the M27Q can push 170hz, maybe this one can as well?). I'm less interested in what's popular and more interested in determining if the $100 premium is actually worth it to me, and I imagine other people (aside from the person who downvoted me for simply posing the question) feel similarly.

In your opinion, which specifications justify the additional $100 for the Dell? I'm not trying to sway anybody's opinion; I'm trying to determine if I'm simply missing something obvious.
I'm wondering about this myself. I've been eyeing this Dell for a while. But built-in KVM would be a big bonus for me because I switch between my work MacBook Pro (on a TB3 hub) and gaming PC every day. I would mainly be doing software dev (lots of text) by day, gaming by night (NVidia 2070S). For video editing and photos I use a 5k iMac.

I eventually want to get a widescreen, so a 1440p 27" would be somewhat of a stopgap, maybe getting a 30 series GPU and a widescreen next year if my finances and availability/prices line up. 27" 1440p is kinda a downgrade since I use a 30" 2560x1600 right now, but that 30" would become a side monitor, possibly in portrait mode a lot of the time (16:10 is much better for portrait than a 16:9).

Edit: Pulled the trigger on the Dell S2721DGF. Same-day delivery so I should get it today! Thinking the Gigabyte M27Q's BGR pixels instead of RGB would be a disadvantage for text.

I am torn between this one (S2721DGF) and AW2721D with Dell's 10% off and AMEX $100 off.

Honestly just get this one. It's 1440 165hz and really rock solid. I've bought two now.

These were on sale just 2 weeks ago for about $325 directly from Dell. I got one and I really like it. But it's apples to oranges - 32 curved VA vs flat IPS 27. I think 1440 IPS will be much better for any type of work as a lot of people will start seeing pixels on a 32 with the same resolution.

I have a Acer Predator XB271HU that is a good monitor but has crummy backlight bleed in the bottom right corner. I have been looking at new monitors for about a year, and they all seem to have shortcomings. I would buy this monitor if I could justify the price of getting the same size monitor. Buying monitors sucks.

Totally agree

I spent time in Best Buy with the 27 and 32 QHDs and I have no idea how, in 2021, anyone can use QHD at 32" for anything beyond gaming/movies.

I have the 2716DGR, which is fantastic. Is there any reason I should upgrade? 144hz vs 165hz, that's all I can primarily think of.
I have that monitor too. Main difference at a glance and why I've been eyeing it is HDR and also FreeSync compatability. Also my monitor flickers with G Sync enabled when using certain apps now, like Zoom. It's quite annoying when I'm working. So was thinking I'd try this newer model.

Those that own this monitor - can you please confirm if the last button in the line of buttons in rear is for switching inputs or just power button? Reason I'm asking - I have a 3 monitor setup connected to my work laptop and personal pc. I'd like to swap out the middle monitor in the setup with this one. But I occasionally have to switch inputs between laptop and pc. So I'm concerned that since access from the side will be closed off due to the other side monitors - it might be a pain to reach my arm on the back of the monitor and find the appropriate button to switch input source.

thanks
