Technically, it's a 2021 TV. Although I agree that it was inspired by the RU8000.
It's listed as a 2020 model on Samsung and Bestbuy and has been out for about 6 months. So 2020 model but may not be replaced soon.

Looks like the same price on Amazon. Had to check their site for the product dimensions.

I'm starting to feel the same way. Maybe I should just wait a couple of years until a 98" is $4k.

I had a couple high end projectors over the last few years, and I'll never go back to one. I picked up a lower end Sony 86" LCD TV and even with a light controlled room, elite screen cinegray, at 120" the brightness and color reproduction on the Sony is unmatched. Besides the fan noise, the fact that it took time to warm up and that we used it as our primary media consumption device so it got turned in and off 10 times a day. I was always worried accidentally leaving it on. It put out a hell of a lot of heat too.

Sounds like they were not very high end. Laser projectors have no warm up or cool down, typically <30 dB, and very little heat output. Typically rated at 25,000+ hrs and no worry or risk about leaving them on. UST projectors are specifically designed for bright rooms, so less of need for light control.

Smilie Well yes, I wasn't speaking of a laser projector. I don't believe there are any available at this price point... No?

FYI... As is the case with all 86" panels, this is IPS and not VA. Expect wider viewing angles and a lower contrast ratio... with similar panel performance to the LG 86" Series UN8570.

Recommended over the LG 8570?

I've always longed for a projector but who needs one with 86" 4k 120hz tvs at $2k.
Nothing beats the immersion of a large screen, and depending on your room, a projector might be what it takes to get there. Yes there are compromises, and yes this is a fantastic price for a decent TV of this size. But in my basement, there's no chance it would replace my 135" FP.

Everything you state is correct but a PJ gets your a 120inch screen which is 2X the area of the 86". That makes it a lot more immersive. Until they get to 100inch the PJs seem better, especially newer ones coming out at 4K. But I have the same complaints, so depending on what I'm watching I'll switch between rooms, 4K TV vs 1080P PJ....

Current house I don't have the room for a multi room setup. Next house if I could dedicate a movie/gaming room, line the walls dark, zero out the light, etc If probably do it again. But my primary media consumption device will remain a traditional panel. My OLED I use in my office is gorgeous, I can't wait for that to hit 100+ inches, but by then I better have a lottery win under my belt.

Tough call... I've never seen this Samsung in-person... might try to see it this weekend. The extras that come with the LG at Costco could be the deciding factor. The LG @ $1600 next week (though $1450 on BF) will have Costco's liberal return policy, probably a 5 yr warranty, and a $100 Hulu eGift. These are the same inclusions as the BF thread I started... and attached below.
