Every microfiber towel I have ever used is poor at absorbing water.

If you got no better option sure can keep using microfiber or waffle weave towels, but for real drying and water absorbing you need something made for that duty. There is a reason Chamois Towel, shammy towels, or synthetic towels exist, they are all the same thing just the name slightly different. Get one of those and see the real difference, I would not dry or detail my car with anything less. The towels I mentioned are meant for one main role to dry the product nothing else! If you follow proper care directions one will last you many many years. Go do your homework and thank me later, I would post the one I am using, but the Chinese brand I bought a few of long ago they stopped making. I can post some links for those who are interested in suggestions though from Amazon.

I've actually have great experience with this towel, it actually absorbs water instead of just moving it around.

The trick is to use a leaf blower to blow off all the excess water first and then use the microfiber towel to wipe away any remaining water spots. This technique works wonders.

Now if this was made of cotton then the claim of being a "water magnet" might make sense. But this makes no sense.

I recommend these:
https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B01F6...UTF8&psc=1

NOTE: I am NOT a professional detailer nor do I do anything near that level. I do a little more than the average person to keep my utility truck and wife's car clean/shiny.

I love the these towels for the amount of water they absorb (2 towels to completely dry my sedan, 4 towels for my long cab long bed with a topper truck without a leaf blower & without wrinkling them out!). If you don't get that detailed into detailing, these are awesome towels. If you want a bargain, can't beat this $5 a towel!

If you get detailed into detailing, I agree with the other comments to get a chamois.

Then every microfiber you've ever used has been the wrong type for water absorption. Google/research into the "Woolly Mammoth". Its the microfiber drying towel I use and is about as absorbent as it gets

I've had two of these for a few years. They work great as long as your car is reasonably waxed or ceramic coated and not dirty. I like them better than the standard microfiber towels because you can wring them out real easily. You can just lightly drag them across the surface of your car and the weight of the towel picks up most of the water.

I'm a car enthusiast. I still use leather chamois for my cars. I have a show car quality R32 GTR and I'm meticulous about paint finishes and that's why I'm hesitant to move away from my tried and true. Anyone just as anal about their car's paint/clearcoat and can comment on long term usage of microfiber towels to dry a car?
If you care that much and can afford an R32, buy a Metro Vac Master Blaster.

The difference is that if you don't clean your car perfectly, a shammy will drag the dirt and scratch your clear coat. A microfiber towel is more likely to lift and trap the dirt without letting it scratch. I prefer using a microfiber cloth to get 95% of the water off and then take spray wax and a clean dry microfiber towel to clean off any water residue and streaks. Plenty of iterations of methods has lead me to this method

So the term shammy is based off Chamios, but depending what its made off it has a different effect. The cheap shammys are more for polishing than they are drying. Now if you want to talk about drying and real absorbency Synthetic chamois absorb a lot more water than a microfiber towel even those luxury ones. The Leather chamois are about one step under luxury microfiber. Microfiber are easier to work with but if you dont clean your car properly and it collects dirt you can scratch up the car. If you pat dry with synthetic chamois and dont squeegee it around you cant scratch the car, at least I never have.

I own a couple of these Meguiar's brand towels and would pass. These that someone posted earlier are a better deal:

Zwipes Auto 879-2 Professional Microfiber Waffle Drying Towel, 25 in. x 36 in, 2-Pack https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01F6KP...UTF8&psc=1

However, for about the same price per towel as Meguiar's, these are better quality (I have a set of these too):

The Rag Company - Dry Me A River - Professional Korean 70/30 Blend Microfiber Waffle-Weave Drying & Detailing Towels, Soft Suede Edges, Royal Blue, 16in x 24in (3-Pack) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07BL4L...UTF8&psc=1

Here is some info on microfiber blends:

Description says it absorbs up to twice that of a normal terry cloth,, ok fine I'll just use two terry cloths.

Use a rinse less wash and Sio2 sealer as a drying aid. Wash and dry one panel at a time ensuring surface is clean. Doing it this way there isn't much water to dry. This towel works great with this method. This is MUCH easier without pulling out the hose. For reference I use Optimum no rinse and their sealer. Many brands out there. While the price of their products are not slick your surface will be 😂. And your time will be cut down. Product lasts a LONG time too.

I have a Worx Hydroshot and thought of buying some distilled water to rinse. 1 - 1 1/2 gallons should do the trick to keep minerals off without buying an inline filter that's only good for 20 rinses. Any thoughts?

I have two of these I use for drying my Fiesta (small car). They work alright, I run the hose without a sprayer to rinse and sheet the water off as much as possible, then use an 80 Volt greenworks blower to blow off what I can. By then one of these will dry the whole car, and wipe down in\side the doors. They need to be a little damp to start really picking up water.
Hey, I do the same for my mine and my wife's cars, except my Greenworks is the 60V variety. Eventually, I may pick up an air compressor for this and other duties.
