Spectrum Internet Ultra 400Mbps $29.99/month for 2 years YMMV

Received a card from Spectrum in the mail. It offers $29.99/month for its Internet Ultra (400Mbps) for 2 years with no contracts, including free modem. Valid through 3/17/2021. Call 1-844-793-7442 or go to Spectrum.com. I entered my address online and saw the offer price.

Could be a local offer. I'm in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Just to clarify...

Spectrum 200 Mbps (100 Mbps in some remote areas) standard high speed internet is a NATIONWIDE regular rate of $74.99 and includes modem. Wireless router rental is $5/ month so buy your own and save money. Regular new customer promotion on this standard plan is $49.99/ month for 12 months. 2nd year rate goes up $10 and 3rd year to regular price. Upgrade to 400 Mbps for $20 more per month or 1 Gig for $60 more per month.

Often the 400 Mbps is available in competitive properties or areas at $49.99/ month for 24 months. Same plan can sometimes more rarely be found for $29.99/ month as OP stated YMMV. More areas for these promos will be added very soon as this is a current project happening now.

Current active Spectrum subscribers are not eligible for new customer rates but you may ask for a retention offer instead. Often these retention offers are not as good as initial new customer offers. Some customers cancel and restart an account or use another provider temporarily to be eligible for new customer rate again. Many customers play the game and call their internet provider every 12 months to get a new lower promotional rate.

Spectrum/Charter/formerly TWC has had a fiber optic backbone for 20+ years. Usually plant lines are connected to property coaxial cable lines put in by the builder and NOT Spectrum. Coax cable lines can theoretically support speeds up to 11 Gigs with recent DOCSIS 3.1 upgrades but with higher latency. Spectrum does have fiber to the unit in some locations (definitely a lot in Business Class) but keep in mind even with a fiber to the unit connection, you are often bottlenecking your speed benefits when connecting to a wireless router and using the WiFi. Really these higher speeds are just marketing ploys to get more money from residential addresses that don't have the correct or even necessary internal networking setup. Those higher speeds and fiber to the house connections are best really for business applications. 100 or 200 Mbps is more than sufficient for even many above average residential internet users.

You don't usually have the option of who your high speed provider is, but when you do, don't choose this company.

That's a pretty broad statement. Lol. I think all exchange carriers are pretty much the same. Not sure why spectrum sticks out as one to avoid. Especially if you can get 400 down for $30/mo.

If competition they do these 400Mbps deals for $29.99. My area Spectrum wants $49.99 Promo for 200Mbps since no other competition.

I have their 940mbps plan & I'm about an hour away from Charlotte. It's okay for the most part, although they do this over coax & not fiber to the home, so it could definitely be much better. I wish I had more options in my area. I used to live in Delaware in a neighborhood that was serviced by both Verizon and Comcast (both of which provided fiber internet), so yeah, it sucks comparatively.

Like most areas in the US, I now have only 1 serious broadband provider in my neighborhood. Maybe Starlink will break up these hegemonies, but I doubt it. Wired internet is going to continue to be more reliable and faster than satellite for a while I think.

Is your fios bill $39.99 total? I was told $39.99 + taxes and fees which comes out to about $70. I have spectrum and trying to find another service since they increase rates every year.

Spectrum sucks, feel bad for people that have there service.
For us it's Spectrum or AT&T. AT&T only offers 100Mbps service, and my family that has them have had tons of issues over the last two years. I think I've had to call Spectrum once for an outage over that same period, and the outage was resolved by the next morning. I really can't complain. At least they aren't Shitcast...

Still cheaper then Xfinity and No data cap till 2023.
They actually withdrew their application from FCC to put data caps for usage.

Just read the ad. Looks like only in the areas that AT&T is in direct competition. Holding out for the $10 internet...lol
