It has a mouse built in.
It connects to the iPad via the connector on the back, so it can passthrough charge the iPad.
Agreed. iPad OS has a lot that needs to change for it to replace a proper computer. A better file system, better multitasking, desktop class web browser when the keyboard is plugged in, a mouse pointer that isn't a big dot allowing for more precise clicks etc.
You'll never get a mouse pointer less than the dot. It would undermine the iPad touch experience too much.

EDIT: Looks like I was wrong. My parents picked one up and they were told this falls under Costco's normal return policy - aka they could "return it 5 years from now if needed" (their words, not my parents'.)
This is an accidental monopoly then because there's literally nothing stopping competitors. The smart connector and magnets are not anything only Apple can design accessories for.
