OK... how about these two...

What is you're obsession with Sony?
It was once a great company known for it reliable electronics but that was in the past.
The only Sony TVs worth purchasing are their top-tier models.

These two?....seriously
And you know the thing about Amazon reviews right?
https://www.cnbc.com/2020/09/06/a...-them.html

Let me know when you have the number of Tv's they sold and the failure rate that is verifiable

Then one can also look at the Vizio and TCL's threads/reviews.....are all those failures true?

I used to own a Samsung F8500 some years ago before I bought an OLED

I never noticed that the F8500 grew dimmer...understanding that both plasma and OLED will indeed grow dimmer over time. I do think that time is more than 8 years with the TV being on for 24 hours a day though...nod
if you would've compared it side by side with a brand new F8500. You would've noticed a difference.
(I purchased two exact LED clocks. I end up only using one for 8 months. When I compared them side by side. One was definitely dimmer.)

A TV will begin deteriorating from the second that you take it out of the box.
Why would manufactures build a bullet proof TV that's going to last 20 years.
Yeah... there's people still rocking their 10~15 year old TVs but that's a fluke.

I believe the final generation of plasmas usually had a stated half life of 100,000 hours. If you set them for dark room viewing, that should extend that somewhat, and then you can presumably edge up the settings to compensation over time.

I actually haven't looked recently to see how many hours I have on the plasma I have owned for about 2250 days now, but it is going to be nowhere near 100,000 hours, and I never felt any need to tweak the settings.

And even 8 hours a day for 10 years is still only about 29,000 hours. Again, assuming you went with dark room settings to begin with, you can probably still compensate at that point.

A lot to unpack here

What do two LCD clocks have to do with a TV?....What you say could be true in regard to the specific clock you purchased for many reasons, but it has nothing to do with a TV

AS for manufacturers building a bullet proof TV that will last 20 years
In my opinion, why would they need to?
Technology moves so fast in TV's...while prices drop...a unit that is 4-5 years old is frankly dated
Thats like someone saying someone has a 10-15 year old computer
It could happen but how relevant is that computer in regards to what is available today

My parents bought a Curtis Mathis 30 inch TV for $1000 in the 80's when I was growing up.
Adjusted for inflation that is $2725.00 today
You can get a very good 4K 75" these days for that money nod

So..I really dont get caught up in longevity with the ever falling pricing and somewhat disposable obsolescent nature of TV's these days

Therapists, psychiatrists and psychologists use metaphors, analogies, similes ..etc to measure a person's intelligence, perception and problem solving.
People who are not very bright/intelligent cannot comprehend them. They cannot grasp the concept.
You just tipped your hand.

Regardless, dude.
I have had enough of you. (I'm certain that is not the first time that you have heard that)
I had not desire whatsoever to answer your never ending pestering questions. Get a life....
Go play with the love of your life the Z9D. (That is IF you actually own one)

Though I might be short a few laughs from time to time

And I guess I will add
What adult is so basic as to not tell the truth about what TV(s) they own?

Buy anyway...here is the back of the Sony Z9D that hangs over a fireplace in my home

could care less about HDMI 2.1, pretty much a useless spec for anyone who doesnt play consoles

Same here. I have both Sony and lg. Ended up returning lg. I don't care what ratings says. You cannot compare the two if you are watching sports, shows or movies. Sony is way better! No contest

I have always wonder about people still rocking plasma TVs.
How's the brightness.
Plasma had great picture quality with deep blacks but.... brand new, right out of the box. The brightness level was OK which meant it only had down hill to go....
One thing the last Panasonic plasmas had that OLED still doesn't have is great motion resolution. OLED motion resolution is TERRIBLE. Nowhere close to the advertised still resolution.

I say this as a former plasma nut who is about to buy his second OLED - this time, probably the 77" C1. OLED motion res is embarrassing if you've had a full res top end Panasonic plasma.

Can anyone explain why I would buy this over the current LG OLED offer that is the same size, same price, and comes with a nice soundbar? I see that this doesn't have HDMI 2.1 like the LG. Any pros to getting this instead?

If you like watching HBO through an app, LG doesn't have it. That's my only complaint with my current LG OLED. Yes, I could plug in some other box to watch it, but I feel that's stupid if it's a smart TV.
