I debated for the longest time and went with the R7. Main reason was because of a user review that I read. The review stated that they had the R3 and ended up almost getting a speeding ticket. Without the arrow, the user mentioned that they weren't sure where the source of the radar was coming from. User assumed they had passed the "danger zone" only to find that the cop was in front of them all along. Almost speeding by the cop who happened to be nested between other cars. Directional arrows ftw. Good luck to you all and I hope my sharing helped one or some of you!

Tesla aint that expensive depending on the model they have. It's like the price of a fully loaded Camry.

I have both the R3 (for two years) and R7 (two cars). R7's direction feature definitely is more convenient. But from what I read, the range is the same as R3. So if you be more careful when you heard that Ka band warning, you should be fine without the direction feature. I got R7 for $366 because it's Amazon Warhouse like new. Basically dented box but completely new (no warranty though). So if you want to get R7 and hard to justify the price, check out Amazon warehouse from time to time and you will eventually find one at lower price.

The R7 has auto lockouts now and a host of firmware improvements according to Vortex Radar's latest youtube video. Those are not options for the R3

Thanks for the mention of the arrows. Hadn't seen that V1 finally lost a grip on the arrows patent in 2015 and Escort and Uniden naturally responded with updated products (since I hadn't paid attention to the market enough to notice the arrival of the 360 and R7). Unfortunately it would seem that they're all staying coordinated to ensure maximum profit taking from these models ($500? Buy two of the R3). Although certainly high, the $500 price totally made sense when V1 was the only game in town (as intended, Mr. Valentine has presumably now received payback for his early engineering efforts). However, when you look at the teardown (https://www.vortexradar.com/2020/05/valentine-1-gen2-under-the-hood/) and consider the minimal costs for a company like Uniden or Escort (vs. their engineering costs) this is just gravy for them.

Arrows FTW indeed!
