I'll say it again. You can undervolt the processor a good amount: I boosted my 6 core performance 29%, and it runs cooler. You can basically make it as good as a Ryzen (or better) with no risk to hardware. You have total freedom to manipulate power, temperature, and noise to your liking. For instance it runs just as fast at 35W as it did at 45W stock. If I max out the fans and CPU I can run at ~68W and 91C and 4.3MHz on all cores forever.

Undervolting is locked out of most 10th gen CPUs, but MSI allows it. You need to enable it in the bios, and then use Throttlestop. Ryzen processors can't be undervolted.

4th time I've linked in this thread? https://www.techpowerup.com/forum...75.279412/

I'd never done anything like this before. It wasn't hard.

How's this compare to rtx 3060 (max-q lowest power)?
I think the lowest power is 60W? On my 2060 performance vs power is ~25%. In other words If I change power 40% performance will change 10%. So best guess...

2060@115W= 100%
2070@115W= 110%
3060@115W= 115%
3060@60W= 94%

Hmm debating if best to hold out for a ASUS Strix G17 3070/Ryzen 9 at $1800 or go with with a config here the 3070/Ryzen 7 at ~$1300.... the G17 3070 is not a max-q/low tdp, this one will likely be... anyone have a take on best price per performance here?
What is you have a lower budget? What's the most affordable 3060 with 17.3". Costco doesn't see with those specs and neither does HP OMEN.

Here is one with 2060 and $50 less. How much better is the one in this thread compared to the one in the link below?

I have this (Lenovo Legion 5) laptop. The screen is amazing and the performance is great. At this price range if you're even remotely interested it's a good deal. Unless you fine a Ryzen 5000 and 3060 for under 1200 this is a solid deal.

The best 15.6" 3060 deal may be that MSI i5 model for $1000 at BB since there might be a way to get a higher tdp wattage bios mod, but stock 75watt is also ok comparable to rtx 2060/2070...Savings of $150 vs this but a little worse cpu.
----.
Is that better than the Lenovo Legion 5 deal at Walmart for $1,006? How about the 17.3" in this thread?

I thought the other identical MSI model, with the GTX 2060 rather than the GTX 2070, and currently on sale for $1100, was the netter of the two MSIs as the 2070 alone didn't justify the additional $100.

Separately, I have 2 months to get a 17.3" laptop. Do you think I will be able to get the same specs but with a 3060 card for about the same specs with the $1200 price by then? Thanks

I am buying a 17.3" for a relative, who doesn't care to overclock or tweak settings so all adjustments won't matter. performance will be what it is out of the box.

I could get the MSI with a 2060 for $1100 or a 2070 for $1200. I believe you said the 2070 alone was not worth the $100 incremental, correct? I have 2 months to get the laptop. Do you think I can get the 3060 by them with the $1200 price tag or less?

Separately, how do you rate various laptop gaming brands by their durability and reliability - MSI, Gigabyte, Asus, Acer, HP, Lenovo, Dell ? For HP it will be their Omen line, for Dell not their overpriced Alienware brand.

They will use it for high end gaming?
No idea when the new laptops will be more available. Maybe not until bitcoin crashes. Maybe not until the fall.
I think buying from a good retailer is more important than brand. Costco is the best. Walmart is decent. BestBuy might be ok but you only have 15 days to return it. Most others suck.

Per the above link the RTX 3060 has 3% better performance than the "RTX 2070 Super" mobile processor. Do you know if the one in this deal is 2060 "super" or not? If it is not "super", what is its relative % weaker performance than the RTX 3060?

The 10750H does as well in games, but if you are using all the cores for a long period it has to clock down due to higher power consumption (overheating).

H means high power laptop CPUs.
Thanks. what are the other variants of mobile processors and are there any that you should avoid with gaming especially if you have a GTX 2060 or 3060 card?

Then how come we are now seeing GTX 3060 15.6" laptops at $1100?

Like a few of you, I also own the overpowered 17 Laptop. I use for light gaming (borderlands 3 and some wwz) I use it for Adobe premiere pro and photoshop and sometimes code. Works for me. However the laptop has quality issues. The plastic bezel that holds the lcd has come unglued the rear plastic inserts that go behind the exhaust vents are broken off and I am not all that rough on my electronics. This just happened from being on a backpack. I am considering buying the laptop and have a few questions if anyone would have an answer

1) can I move the 32 gigs of ram from my op laptop to this one ?
2) will this allow me to use two m2 drives and a 2.5 HDd ?
3) are the cpu and graphics going to be a noticeable improvement over what I already have ?
4) is the screen on the msi of decent quality ? The op has a lovely panel.
5) what kind of battery life can I expect with some light YouTube and browsing ?
6) msi laptop has a higher quality control than op ?
7) any other reasons why someone would consider this laptop aside from it being a Costco deal ?
8) could I get a 3060 laptop at around the same price if I waited till end of summer or fall and would that be better ?

Many thanks in advance.
