I cant recommend these Brother Laser Printers enough! I have had mine (HL-2280DW) for eight years now and it still runs like a champ.

3rd party toner costs next to nothing and have never had a single issue with it. I swear it is going to outlive me at this rate.

Yeah this is only wired. It's the DW that's WiFi.

I got a couple of these new for $50 or $60 at Best Buy back in summer 2017. They work like champs & still going strong with no issues whatsoever.

From everything I can find, this model appears to be wired only. Are you sure that this works with 2.4 GHz?

HL-2140 is already support by ChromeOS. As long as you're connected to the network you should be able to set it up in the printers section. You will need to know the IP of the printer. PM me if you're having issues.
I haven't tried to connect it via LAN cable, but print via USB cable failed. I tried updating the printer firmware, no luck. Are you saying if I connect it to my router via LAN, I will be able to print? Thanks and repped you!

Yes, you need to connect to the LAN.

So I wire this to Ethernet
Connect to wireless router and you can print from any device. Brother app for android or iOS work great .
This printer appears to have no Ethernet port (in addition to not supporting WiFi). So it's USB only.

I picked up the DW (WiFi) version of this printer during the previous sale for about $90, and while overall I am happy with it, I do sometimes have trouble getting it to print from phone/tablet or in Linux (Cups). From Windows it works consistently.

Have you bought a new drum unit yet? I didn't know we had to buy that in addition to toners.
Funny thing is I looked today and it still says I have 14% remaining on my drum. So I would think the drum is coming to an end of its life.

My question is will it stop working when the printer sees it has 0% life expectancy or will it keep churning along? Reason is if it is still printing just fine even after it reaches 0%, I wont replace it until the print quality gets affected.

Regardless, I think I will order a 3rd party drum just in case. I see the 3rd party ones are relatively inexpensive and if this one lasted 8+ years, I would assume the new one would be around that as well.

I have the exact same one and agree 100%. Brother Laser printers are awesome and sip cheap toner. My only gripe was the lack of AirPrint support, but it is an old model so I'll give it a pass, and was able to run a proxy to get it working so I didn't need to use the app.
Hell...you probably got it off the same deal I did years ago I found on here. laugh out loudlaugh out loud

Seriously one of the best things I have purchased in the past ten years. Thing is an absolute tank that refuses to die, even after 5+ moves.

Why is this a Frontpage Deal?? This is a refurbished model for $70. A brand new one went as low as $40 before. This is NOT a wireless printer. The HL-L2370DW (Brother entry level WiFi laser printer) went as low as $75 before (brand new). I'm using HL-L2370DW now and used to have HL-L2320D. They are both good entry level printers but not at this price.

I got the wireless version from Walmart at same price. It was easy to operate with ios and windows. Walmart one comes back in stock every few days.

The 2140 is not a network printer, so you can't just connect it directly to a lan. You need a computer connected to it to be a print server (raspberry pi with CUPS works), a network printer adapter, or a router that has a usb print server.

Oops, my HL-2140 is not a network printer and doesn't have LAN. Only USB. Looks like I am gonna have to try setting up raspberry pi server, if I can succeed connecting via USB port

Hahah, I was thinking the exact same thing. Yeah, I got mine from a SD post about 8 or so years ago. I think it was like $50 if I had to wager a guess. And while I don't print often (only on my second toner cart), it's been the best printer I've ever owned.

Try this for a basic CUPs setup:

I believe I used the Brother HL-2140 Foomatic/hpijs-pcl5e driver and that seems to work well. If you want Airprint support there are a few extra steps, and you can google "cups raspberry pi airprint" to find out how to add and configure the needed packages.
Thanks for the link. My HL-2140 only has a USB port, so I am hoping I can set up the raspberry pi server via USB port.

This isn't really a deal unless printers have gone up in price recently or something. This same model has been $50 new plenty of times

That's exactly what happened I believe.
