I was thinking of buying this until you just said that... might skip on this as well cause of that.
On the other hand it's only a hundred bucks, not a bad deal just for the cabinet and components (not name brand but good enough for me). Logging in gets you five "sessions", and if you leave the dongle on wifi forever it might never bother you. I only spent a few weeks with it, downloading whatever from reddit and setting it up to give as a gift. For the price of this, an hour or two, and a flash drive you get a decent wireless retro game experience assuming Atgames keeps CoinopsX enabled and doesn't fold. Even then you could stick a Pi in it.

I didnt want to, but figure if I dont like it I can at least use the controller for my Shield or another arcade I make. I ended up pulling the trigger for $100 I can add my own games since the list is nothing special.

Can this be modded by adding raspberry pi or something for marvel vs capcom 2?
Can be more easily modded with a USB stick and CoinOPS X.

For this price, I'm in 4 1.

I don't have the room for any full size arcade cabinet, but I do have the room for just the controller part. This thing seems to be nice sized, just like the controls on a real arcade machine.

I look forward to playing some old cool retro games on it soon. I'd like to play retro games using full sized controls like were found on the original games, not mini-sized versions made for midgets that seem to be popular these days.

I also like how it has buttons on the side for pinball. I can tilt my monitor vertical and have some nice controls when playing pinball games.

Thanks OP... I have spent many years doing the RPi thing, and figure this won't be hard to side load games on, and with the trackball, being able to play Golden Tee or Capcom Bowling... bingo.

And if it sucks, I can always return to Walmart.

What CPU/board is this built around, and what game family/ecosystem are the included games from? Can you connect this to a RetroPi and how do the 2 game platforms compare? I'm thinking of building or getting something like this for my nephew and don't know much about all the various options.

Mine was built probably 2 years ago. I added about 10k ROMs to it with a MicroSD. I don't think I spent over $100. You also don't have to use a Raspberry Pi, as there are other boards you can use such as the ASUS Tinker Board, so there's always the option to shop around. Sometimes you can also find good deals on the CanaKits, which run around $50-100. Sure, these are kinda neat with the retro controls, but IMO, I like having something with all the additional ROMs. There are times when I just picked a random game that I never heard of and tried it, especially ones that were originally Japanese releases. The other thing with having less games is the novelty of playing them can wear off fast, then you want to move on to something else. I remember trying games like Altered Beast again many years after I originally played it, and they are in a lot of ways more difficulty to play now because of the older derpy controls controlled to the modern controls that are more fluid.
Seems clear you didn't bother with any research before going on about your chosen option, as these can have ROMs added easily. These are also clearly targeted at people who WANT the retro controls. You basically came in and knocked a product you didn't know much about and wasn't aimed at your interests.

When CoinOpsX is installed, can you add console ROMs you have legal copies of into that ecosystem and game selector?

Or would those ROMs need to be added to and launched from the main AtGames menu?

Not knocking the deal on the LGP as I own one (bought it at the $150 price back in December), but some things to be aware of:

1) There is only one HDMI port on the puck and that is strictly to connect the puck to your TV/display--meaning, no OTG with connecting your PC to the puck via HDMI.

2) Similarly there is only 1 USB port so you would need a USB hub if you plan to connect multiple USB devices to it. The most common scenario is if you need to plug in your USB stick and also want use your LGP deck as a wired controller rather than deal with the potential headaches that come with using it via BT.

3) There is no on/off button on the puck--meaning, pressing the power button on the LGP deck only powers off the control deck, not both deck and puck.

4) The one main advantage the LGP has over the ALU is that it has a working display rotation option--good for when you want to play games that display best in portrait mode and you have a display/monitor that supports portrait orientation.

5) If you're really ambitious and are good with a soldering iron, you can swap out the internal 18650 battery inside the control deck for a higher-capacity one to gain you some more battery runtime...or wire in a bunch of 18650 batteries in parallel to get you some really long runtime.

6) For those of you who already own an ALU 1.1, the LGP at $99 is a worthwhile deal since the trackball and pinball buttons (both of which make for good replacements if you own an ALU 1.1 and either/both trackball and pinball controls go bad), as well as being swappable with the existing ALU 1.1 control deck for when you need the extra two player buttons.

A couple things some of the experts here may know:

Sounds like the trackball from atgames isn't very good. Can it be upgraded easily?

Anyone have experience with this and the similar Atari fight stick which seems like the best comparable option? ( https://www.amazon.com/Fightstick...08MFG7J1K/ )
