If you remove any paid lines within the first year, the free line loses the promo and becomes paid.

TMO doesn't want people doing what you're wanting to do.

To accomplish it, you would need to:

1. Add free line.
2. Wait a year + one day.
3. Port out paid line to another carrier.
4. Keep paid line active on another carrier for 90 days (to preserve number).
5. Port old number back in on free line.

This whole process has taken you 1.25 years.
My port-in was initiated during T439 promo period and completed today outside of the promo period. Without the port in (with only the added line and traded-in) I was on a bad promo. Once the port-in completed today, the system auto updated to T439 promo in my account --> promotions. Therefore, I don't think it was a requirement the port-ins must be completed by 3/24 EOB, just as long as they are initiated.
YES, you can use this sim in your iPad. I pay for 2 lines and have 3 free lines on promotion (5 lines total)
I have 2 of my free lines in a iPad and a Samsung S4 tablet, with UNLIMITED data.
You have to call them and tell them you want to use the line (promo line) in a tablet but don't want to lose the promotion and you don't want to open a new line for this.
What they did for me, was block the phone service on the line and kept the messaging and data. That way I am able to use it in my tablet.
Every summer my daughter comes and visit from Germany. I take one of the sim card out of my tablet and put it in her phone..
I call T-Mobile and have them unblock the phone service. That way, my daughter has a phone while she is here in country.
When she leaves I call them back and get it blocked again. I have been doing this for close to 5 years. So I know for a fact it works.
Tomorrow I will be calling to try and get another free line.. (Fingers Crossed)
Hope this helps

I just checked and I am in 6FMSC4. I am currently on a base plan with 4 lines + 1 paid extra line. My end goal is to get the paid line to be free. What would be the best course of action?
1. Add new line
2. Move the paid line out of the plan (after x days?)
3. Move back the extra line in
4. Remove the extra phone number

Not really sure how the specifics go. If someone knows, I'd greatly appreciate it. Never done this before unfortunately.

It would make more sense to end the free line promos and just make individual lines cheaper. For example, 1 line $30, 2 lines $60, 3 lines $90, etc. If you got 10 lines you pay $300. Why should people with 1 line have to eat a higher cost so other customers can eat for free.
The group discount make people tend to stay with the service. For the people in my group, if any of them want to port out, they either have to find a replacement or find a good deal that can convince all of us to switch together.

It turns out that it is the most effective is just contact Tmobile on facebook. Think the used to be referred to as TForce. They were able to do things the reps on the phone couldn't do.
Thank you, that worked like a charm and I didn't have to sit around waiting I just responded over time. Much easier than sitting and waiting on hold or going to the store for no help

Thanks for the response!! Very helpful for me. I will be following your advice.

For the free line, would it also get the 'Unlimited High-Speed Included w/ 6GB Mobile Hotspot' that all my other existing numbers have? Or that's out of the picture?

Can I add one free line now to my account and say after 6 months I would like to port in a number from a different carrier replacing this free line?
Or do I have to port right now or just use the number the new free line comes with?

Apparently "FRLTULF2" is an "up to 12 lines" plan. I see another line added tomorrow...

And another EIP phone...
Quote from kittenzombie :
Is it? I thought it was an limit 8 plan.
FRLTULF2 has 8 line limit, if I recall correctly.

The grandfathered 12 limit plan that most here jump to is TIULFM9.

That is, if you can persuade a T-force rep to change your grandfathered SOC.

Also, be careful about stacking promos for free or discounted devices. Many have been screwed attempting to stack device and EIP promos with free line promos. Read the fine print first to see if it is allowed.

You can port in number any time if the number is not on Sprint/T-Mobile postpaid plan.

Cannot have closed a line in the last 30, the 90 day is for porting in. Can't have been a number on tmo network in last 90 days to qualify for port in promos
This 90 day is only for port in promos correct? It does not apply to port out of number and porting in over a free line after a year, if so why are folks here suggesting 1.25 yrs to port out paid line port back in over free line. If you have no port in promos to take advantage of after the year it should just be 1 yr 1 day max not 1 yr 90 days?

Also what is the best plan to upgrade to if currently on Magenta 1.0 tax included without increased fees?
