If you remove any paid lines within the first year, the free line loses the promo and becomes paid.

TMO doesn't want people doing what you're wanting to do.

To accomplish it, you would need to:

1. Add free line.
2. Wait a year + one day.
3. Port out paid line to another carrier.
4. Keep paid line active on another carrier for 90 days (to preserve number).
5. Port old number back in on free line.

This whole process has taken you 1.25 years.
My port-in was initiated during T439 promo period and completed today outside of the promo period. Without the port in (with only the added line and traded-in) I was on a bad promo. Once the port-in completed today, the system auto updated to T439 promo in my account --> promotions. Therefore, I don't think it was a requirement the port-ins must be completed by 3/24 EOB, just as long as they are initiated.
YES, you can use this sim in your iPad. I pay for 2 lines and have 3 free lines on promotion (5 lines total)
I have 2 of my free lines in a iPad and a Samsung S4 tablet, with UNLIMITED data.
You have to call them and tell them you want to use the line (promo line) in a tablet but don't want to lose the promotion and you don't want to open a new line for this.
What they did for me, was block the phone service on the line and kept the messaging and data. That way I am able to use it in my tablet.
Every summer my daughter comes and visit from Germany. I take one of the sim card out of my tablet and put it in her phone..
I call T-Mobile and have them unblock the phone service. That way, my daughter has a phone while she is here in country.
When she leaves I call them back and get it blocked again. I have been doing this for close to 5 years. So I know for a fact it works.
Tomorrow I will be calling to try and get another free line.. (Fingers Crossed)
Hope this helps

yes. You can self activate a new line online and pay for the SIM. You also do this at Costco. Via Chat or in store you have to pay $10 SIM and likely the support fee, which you can sometimes get waived.
Thanks I have a T-Mobile SIM I wonder if I can get chat to activate it. I'm glad I'm back at TMobile for deals like this. I'm on Magenta Max, hopefully this will work in a tablet even though I read it can be slow.

What exactly are people using these "free" lines for? If you have several "free" lines which you are not using for anything and you're paying tax on those lines then its really not a good deal.
The T-Mobile Tuesday freebies are good uses. Basically anything that requires you to have a unique phone number to register like UberEats, Fetch, urlhasbeenblocked etc. With an extra number you can start redeeming free stuff.

If you have the Magenta plans then taxes and fees are included so the new line is truly FREE (FREE FREE if you also opt out of them selling your data lol).

You can also rent your lines out to friends and family.

Well, I am with you on the hookup and would love that too. But, to be fair, we cannot really claim we got nothing. There have been plenty of promos. Sure, Hookup would be the icing on the cake, and I still believe in miracles.... one day ... but grab the free line tomorrow as a starter. ;-)
Yeah we can only hope. I did take advantage of the two free line promos last year and plan on canceling two of my paid lines later this year and porting back the numbers to the free lines to knock my bill down a little. It's just that I hate the fact that existing customers are paying more than what these new customers are paying.

i got hookup added during last free line event back in dec last yr with oversea rep. i was surprised that rep was able to get his super to add it for me
Wow this sounds like a YMMV situation. Just depends if you are lucky enough to get a rep to follow through, but I have seen on forums ppl say that the overseas reps tend to be more flexible. It doesn't hurt to try.... and keep trying lol.

How did you approach asking them for the hookup discount btw?

Can this 'free line' be stacked with current iPhone12 promo?

Activate a new line of service and port-in number on any eligible plan.

Purchase an iPhone 12, iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12 Pro Max, or iPhone 12 Pro device on a monthly payment plan and pay applicable sales tax on pre-credit price at time of purchase.

Trade in an eligible device in good condition:

Get up to $830 off:
Apple: iPhone 11 series, iPhone XS series, iPhone XR, iPhone X, iPhone 8 series
Samsung: A71, A71 5G, Fold, Galaxy S9 series, Galaxy S10 series, Galaxy S20 series, Galaxy S21 series, Note9, Note10 series, Note20 5G, Note20 Ultra 5G, Z Flip 5G
Google: Pixel 4 series
LG: V50 ThinQ, V60 ThinQ 5G
OnePlus: 7 Pro 5G, 7T, 7T Pro 5G McLaren, 8 5G, 8 Pro
I talked with a rep from messeger and he said free line can stack with this device promo. But as always, the rep may also shares wrong info.

Can I close out a line that im currently paying for and then open a free line? I have like 5 lines I'm paying for rn.
I would recommend getting the line, in 9 months port one of your paid lines to google or elsewhere and then after 3 months call T-Mobile to port your number over to your free line.

People who had the original Magenta plan, now referred to as Magenta 1.0, can switch to the new Magenta plan announced ~3 weeks ago. Really no real difference besides the new plan having 5GB of hotspot data and 100GB of priority data (compared with 3GB and 50GB for original Magenta).
I switched from old magenta to new magenta last week and hookup and all free lines stayed intact on account.

Try with the rep! Never hurts to ask or ask him to change your SOC code

I was on the same boat as you. I realized I am missing all those free lines so I switch to 2/120. Got my free netflix and oneplus promo still attached. And I got $20 off for kickback since I am using those free lines as my new. So basically I got 2 free and 2 paid lines with free netflix and paying 4/$100. I missed the first free line so as if I were you, asked to change your plan for 2/120 tmobile one plan. Then they can add the line for free plus free netflix. Next time they giveaway free line you will eligible and be paying 4/100 due to kickback. Pretty good deal to me Smilie =initial

It does hurt to ask if they say you qualify, then later change their mind- back-charge you and raise the price of the phone you got on the add-a-line promotion, then refuse to fix it and keep charging you. That's what T-Mobile did to us. And they have the nerve to call their CSRs "Experts". See my earlier post in this thread for details if you're interested.

Record calls, take notes with dates, times and employee IDs. Then get an attorney. Sad that this is how they (and many utilities) choose to do business.
