If you remove any paid lines within the first year, the free line loses the promo and becomes paid.

TMO doesn't want people doing what you're wanting to do.

To accomplish it, you would need to:

1. Add free line.
2. Wait a year + one day.
3. Port out paid line to another carrier.
4. Keep paid line active on another carrier for 90 days (to preserve number).
5. Port old number back in on free line.

This whole process has taken you 1.25 years.
My port-in was initiated during T439 promo period and completed today outside of the promo period. Without the port in (with only the added line and traded-in) I was on a bad promo. Once the port-in completed today, the system auto updated to T439 promo in my account --> promotions. Therefore, I don't think it was a requirement the port-ins must be completed by 3/24 EOB, just as long as they are initiated.
YES, you can use this sim in your iPad. I pay for 2 lines and have 3 free lines on promotion (5 lines total)
I have 2 of my free lines in a iPad and a Samsung S4 tablet, with UNLIMITED data.
You have to call them and tell them you want to use the line (promo line) in a tablet but don't want to lose the promotion and you don't want to open a new line for this.
What they did for me, was block the phone service on the line and kept the messaging and data. That way I am able to use it in my tablet.
Every summer my daughter comes and visit from Germany. I take one of the sim card out of my tablet and put it in her phone..
I call T-Mobile and have them unblock the phone service. That way, my daughter has a phone while she is here in country.
When she leaves I call them back and get it blocked again. I have been doing this for close to 5 years. So I know for a fact it works.
Tomorrow I will be calling to try and get another free line.. (Fingers Crossed)
Hope this helps

My guess is they will move you over to magenta9 if you do add a new line.
I see. So maybe it's automatic without me needing to ask, if I were to get to that point? Based on some of the previous posts, I thought it was something that I would need to request when I got to 9 lines.

I guess I'll find out when the next AAL is here!

Yeah I can tell you that in the other side of the country it's not the same. Honestly I think it's because the West Coast was an early adopter of T-Mobile's crap and ther are just significantly more users on this Coast than yours. Maybe I'm wrong all I know is that my dropped calls and missed calls and failed texts and all sorts of other crap that I never had on Verizon in 10 years has quadrupled in the last 18 months on T-Mobile.
Experiences must vary quite a bit. I switched to T-Mobile two years ago, and I have not had any problems with coverage here in Southern California.

I have used the included international data and texts before the pandemic, and that was flawless. Included international data and text was the reason I switched.

I got one added through chat. I just asked about the status of a current order and they told me about the free line. So can I use this in my T9 hotspot? I read there may be a way to change the IMEI or something
I was looking through a couple of those posts as someone mentioned that as a possibility. There is a thread on the T9 that includes information about unlocking and changing the IMEI. It also looks like the TTL may need to be updated, but I'm not sure yet.

T9 thread: https://slickdeals.net/e/14675033-t-mobile-free-hotspot-and-free-30-days-or-30gb-data?src=SiteSearch

The wiki includes the unlock information, and some of the links talk about some of the things that can be done.

WOW!! Thank you to the OP and all the people who posted on this thread. I have been looking for months for a deal to give my kid since her phone died. It seemed like all the other deals needed a trade in that I just don't have in order to get a decent deal.

After 2 hours, I was able to get a free iphone se with the free aal and i ported in a number from google fi. My daughter will be 16 in a week and although she doesn't prefer red (the other colors are back ordered) I think she will be happy to have a working phone again. I am ELATED that I didn't end up spending a dime to make it happen, so if she breaks this one, I am not out anything but my time.

I've been a t-mobile customer for about 5 years now and took advantage of 2 of the free lines last year, but have not gotten any phones with it. So thanks again EVERYONE who contributed useful info to this thread!!

No. And At least two parts of the OP tells you clearly that it does not. I'm not trying to be rude, but please skim thru the OP before asking questions.

Yeah. I hear you. I think when even experienced people are asking questions it means there is worry about not doing it exactly right so as to not ruin the current promos linked to the individuals account. That's at least why I ask my questions even after reviewing...

I'm on FRLTUL2LP and haven't been able to get any more free lines. It's the old 2/$100 + free 3rd line plan. Is there any benefit in terms of cost or features, to jumping on a different plan to take advantage of any of these promos?
