If you remove any paid lines within the first year, the free line loses the promo and becomes paid.

TMO doesn't want people doing what you're wanting to do.

To accomplish it, you would need to:

1. Add free line.
2. Wait a year + one day.
3. Port out paid line to another carrier.
4. Keep paid line active on another carrier for 90 days (to preserve number).
5. Port old number back in on free line.

This whole process has taken you 1.25 years.
My port-in was initiated during T439 promo period and completed today outside of the promo period. Without the port in (with only the added line and traded-in) I was on a bad promo. Once the port-in completed today, the system auto updated to T439 promo in my account --> promotions. Therefore, I don't think it was a requirement the port-ins must be completed by 3/24 EOB, just as long as they are initiated.
YES, you can use this sim in your iPad. I pay for 2 lines and have 3 free lines on promotion (5 lines total)
I have 2 of my free lines in a iPad and a Samsung S4 tablet, with UNLIMITED data.
You have to call them and tell them you want to use the line (promo line) in a tablet but don't want to lose the promotion and you don't want to open a new line for this.
What they did for me, was block the phone service on the line and kept the messaging and data. That way I am able to use it in my tablet.
Every summer my daughter comes and visit from Germany. I take one of the sim card out of my tablet and put it in her phone..
I call T-Mobile and have them unblock the phone service. That way, my daughter has a phone while she is here in country.
When she leaves I call them back and get it blocked again. I have been doing this for close to 5 years. So I know for a fact it works.
Tomorrow I will be calling to try and get another free line.. (Fingers Crossed)
Hope this helps

What does it mean that I have to maintain all lines for 12 months. What happens when I cancel my Tmobile account 6 months from now?
the 1 year thing is only to maintain your free line free. you can leave or cancel anytime. doing that your free line will become paid line. if you cancel acct going to verizon. then it doesn't matter to you.

If you want just the free line then yes, you are "added a line/person" and BYOD. You could call / chat later to add a phone promo like the SE2 on us if you have a number to port in, for example. You can do that after the SIM shipped and you have a number/line assigned to port into. Waiting a couple of days is fine but don't wait too long if you are eying a phone promo as then can disappear or stop/restart and then you may not qualify any longer as there was a gab in between (happened to me before).

I plan on grabbing the line first and within the next 72/96hh or so to make up my mind what/if phone promo to use but do that before the end of the Weekend.

Thanks a lot. I really appreciate it. I think this is exactly what I am going to do as well.

Anyone here who used to be with Sprint on $35 kickstart unlimited plan? We're paying about $44 total for one kickstart plus they gave us an additional "unlimited on us" about a year ago, so 2 unlimited lines for $44.

I wonder if we switch what we'd pay under T-Mobile.

Thank you!
I would call them and ask. I just posted a thread about that. Was not my case, I had 3 lines and went to 2 and the promo was canceled on my account. Now I'm paying for that "free" line. Don't do it.

i am really confused.

i am a current tmo customer who has 5 lines (all paid) and my SOC is TM1T12

if i add a new line, its automatically free with the same plan as the other lines (T Mobile One)?
You should be fine. I had 2 free lines on tmobile one before I ran into an issue.

WOW!! Thank you to the OP and all the people who posted on this thread. I have been looking for months for a deal to give my kid since her phone died. It seemed like all the other deals needed a trade in that I just don't have in order to get a decent deal.

After 2 hours, I was able to get a free iphone se with the free aal and i ported in a number from google fi. My daughter will be 16 in a week and although she doesn't prefer red (the other colors are back ordered) I think she will be happy to have a working phone again. I am ELATED that I didn't end up spending a dime to make it happen, so if she breaks this one, I am not out anything but my time.

I've been a t-mobile customer for about 5 years now and took advantage of 2 of the free lines last year, but have not gotten any phones with it. So thanks again EVERYONE who contributed useful info to this thread!!
Works with Google Fi number? Thought had to be ATT/Verizon?

Best Android phone deal for a retiree coming from a crappy Android phone? I'm thinking the Galaxy A71 5G for $99. Anyone have a better recommendation?

Military deserves a discount but why would a 55+ deserve one over other age demographics? I'd say young adults with kids need money more than older ppl, or maybe college students, or even certain income brackets ..
It is common to give promotions to both Military and 55+ for different reasons. Military is given discounts and promotion for their service. 55+ is given discounts and promotions typically because their earning potential is reduced or non-existent. As for basing promotions based on the "needs" of an age group, this can be very contentious. It is (or was) commonly viewed that younger people have the largest earning potential. It may not be at this very moment in their lives, but they have numerous years in front of them to accumulate wealth. The counter-argument is people who have retired should have accumulated enough wealth to continue the live style they had prior to retirement, and not need any "special discounts".

As for college students and people with student loans, the current media and politicians have spent plenty of time making them out to be victims. They paint them as helpless young adults who have huge debt that needs to be forgiven. I've always thought college kids are "supposed" to be smart, have the ability to be fiscally responsible, make good decisions about where they go to school, and select professions that allow them to manage their debt. Unfortunately, many students are going to school for the "experience", and going to expensive out of state schools, and/or traveling while in school, and taking more than 4 years to get a degree. The next time you read a news story about some unfortunate person with a huge debt, ask yourself why the author doesn't ask these tough questions; Did you go to school out of state, or pick one with tuition you could afford? Did you work while in college? Did you research and pick a profession which the economy needed? How long did it take for you to get a "4 year" degree? Unfortunately, these questions never get asked, because it wouldn't fit the narrative of the person being the victim. People need to take responsibility for their decisions....

Maybe those who "deserve" a promotion should be those who rose up from meager childhoods, went to an inexpensive local state school (or joined the militaries), finished school in 4 years with a highly sought after degree (or learned a trade), joined the workforce, and paid off all debt while raising a family. Maybe those people should be rewarded for once. Unfortunately, that is rarely the case, because they are capable of creating their own reward system.

As you can see, determining who "deserves" can be contentious. Personally, It's nice to see companies like T-Mobile offer discounts for Military & 55+. As for everyone else, it looks like the government is well underway of making sure people in all kinds of age groups get free money....

Interestingly, despite 2 agents before telling me I can add up to 12 lines the system now tells me it's time for an upgrade when trying to do self checkout for the line. I guess I will have to chat with someone later and document everything. We don't want any plan changes, no Magenta. Too many good promos on the account with One.
I had that issue. There is a cap at 8 lines then the 9th moves to 30 a month. They grandfathered my tmobile one into tmobile one 9 lines+ and I could add the line and will get a 30 bill credit note l now.

The only "contract" I've had is with the device, which is 0% interest and pay the device over 24 billing cycles. I can pick up and leave anytime I want, but if I do I simply pay off the device. But you can bring your own device and never have to worry about that aspect. This isn't the same as "2 year contract and we'll stiff you with a heavy disconnect penalty of you choose to leave."
Spin it however you wish, but a contract is a contract, whether it is for service or a device. If you're on EIP for 24 months where T-mobile is paying the monthly bill credits, we both know you're not walking away from T-mobile for 2 years unless you want to take a hit financially. And T-mobile knows it too, that is why they dangle these extended EIP agreements, which are signed contracts. The only way to stay truly contract-free with T-mobile is to avoid signing on for most device promos and most add-a-line promos. That is why many of us do our T-mobile deals through Costco, because for many promos it eliminates or reduces these multi-year contracts.

Really tempted to get another free line, but I don't want to mess up my billing. I switched to T-Mobile a year and 3 months ago with the 20% insider hookup deal, got one free line on switching, and took advantage of all four free lines from last year. So I have nine lines total. When I added the last line in December my entire promotion was changed and my bill dropped to a shocking $66 for nine magenta lines. so I'm hesitant to had anything or make changes to my account because I don't want to lose this deal that I have had since the end of December.
For real. I'm always afraid to touch anything out of fear of losing something.

See if you qualify for the S21 5G trade-in promo. Grab the cheapest device needed to qualify for trade in in good condition from ebay or swappa.
