I did twice on free line BYOD in Costco last year and got cash cards without any issue.
I did it twice last year too, but I skipped out on the last BYOD/free line offer because the free line offer explicitly mentioned not to do it with Costcto. The previous two that I participated in made no mention of Costco BYOD.

If you remove any paid lines within the first year, the free line loses the promo and becomes paid.

TMO doesn't want people doing what you're wanting to do.

To accomplish it, you would need to:

1. Add free line.
2. Wait a year + one day.
3. Port out paid line to another carrier.
4. Keep paid line active on another carrier for 90 days (to preserve number).
5. Port old number back in on free line.

This whole process has taken you 1.25 years.
I've asked tmo reps and pretty sure they all said that is fine. You can swap numbers between the paid line and one of your free lines. Then you can just cancel your paid line- no porting required. That is, ofc unless you actively care about the numbers on all of your 5+ free lines at that point.

I did BYOD at Costco. I got my $100 rebate last week and my line is still fine. I don't think the two systems talk to each other.
EliteDude, are you saying that you participated in free-line/Costco BYOD offer towards the end of last year? Prior to the Nov/Dec 2020 free-line offer, there was never any mention of not being able to take advantage of the Costco rebates(s).

Was anyone with the SOC code 6SCFM4L able to get the free line from Costco? My local Costco said I must switch to Magenta Max. This is the second time they denied me. Thanks.

Thanks for sharing the info. Looks like the Costco rebate will stack with free line promotion. It's great.

Interesting and makes me want to move over more now.. wonder if this is for all socs or certain ones. I'm on One.

Just tough to chance and risk losing so much an having to deal with incompetent reps for hours days etc
Both of those SOC should work. No idea what's the difference.
It will be a hassle if the CSR don't know what they are doing or does not do it properly.
I think it's definitely worth a try now that they still let you do it. In the future they may only let you go up to Magenta and lose your KB/One+.

I thought this thread is for a free line. Why is everyone asking for a porting number?

you can port numbers onto your free lines but you can not swap numbers between paid and free lines. for example; line A (phone number 12345) is paid line and line B (67890) is free line, you can not swap the numbers so phone number 12345 would go to Line B, and 67890 go to Line A. I want to swap the lines on my account but i was told T-mobile doesn't allow that by at least 5 different reps. Unless you have any other reference...
