Not necessary.
I opened the free line in Costco and then came home and chatted with T-Force (FB Messenger) to put all promos in place including the porting-in.
They said if I order iPhone-12 (i.e. "upgrade" the device on the new free line) then they will have to charge $20 upgrade fees which I can avoid by upgrading it online, so I did the upgrade online and confirmed with them if everything looks good (e.g. free line, port-in and trade-in promo applied).
The only minor issue is, the Visible # which is bought from here on SD and ported-in for that iPhone-12 promo is from CA and I am in TX...lol
I hope my daughter won't mind the CA number once she starts going to middle school from Aug...;-)
BTW, does it matter if the # is from CA and we are using in TX? Any cons?
Just wait 2 months or so til the EIP settles. Then you can port the area code number you want to it. You can port more than once to the same line. I have done it multiple times. You can use Google Voice or Number Barn to get the area code number you want. Google is cheaper and their port only takes a few minutes. But it does require a little know how. Do a search to find how. Very easy

I wonder if this works with first responder, military or 55+ plans? I am thinking just like in the past that it won't.

So it's possible to change your phone number to your actual address code after using another state's area code number for the port promo? Would I have to wait 24 months til the free credits end?

The Verizon port in number I got from Ebay can't be processed since T-mobile needs a port out pin. I will need a new port in number in case the seller can't help. If anyone have a extra Verizon port in (with port out pin) AT&T or any other carriers qualified for T-Mobile port in promo, Please PM me, thank you

How much is a S20 FE worth these days? Worth it to trade that in for the free iPhone 12?
I sold mine yesterday within an hour of posing on FB marketplace for $475 net cash locally. That seemed lucky chance. Maybe $425-$450 net is the norm?

Just figured that whenever I get the next new phone, a iP12 or S21 will get $150 or more higher trade in value than a S20FE or iP11 etc. Did the costco BOGO S21+ and both S21+ phones cost me $803 after taxes and rebates total (and I keep my trade in's to sell) , so I figure it's stupid not to upgrade as my trades. . .S20Fe + XS Max will fetch a combined $900

After couple of tries, finally agent changed the SOC to FRLTULFM9 from FRLTULF. But as you mentioned, I don't see new line added(I provided my own SIM) or new promo added. I see all Kickbacks, One plus promos, and device promos intact, but don't any account promos except Insider discount and AAL. Is that normal?

I asked rep difference between FRLTULFM9 or TIULFM9, and he said TIULFM9 is nine lines max, whereas FRLTULFM9 is 12 lines max. I don't know if's totally accurate, but he switched me to FRLTULFM9 without any fuss.
Sounds good. I guess the 12 lines could be good moving forward. Wait for the line it may take 24-48h. Did your pricing change? Mine went a bit crazy so I don't know what to think of it yet.

Pls let people know what your plan is , the plan detail including tax and fees and how much you pay monthly for how many lines! Lot of the people that keep adding free lines pay a lot on their plan and very weak plan like very limited data or hotspot etc.
Well you know the prices. For the last few years since T-Mobile One the 2 line plans essentially start at 120 taxes and fees included. There were special promo plans with 2 lines for $100 that seem to now have an issue adding lines. Then it depends on the plan, some have an extra line for $20 and others for $30.
There were times with OnePlus promos for free (missed that one) and others with OnePlus for $5/line. If you add a free line it inherits the data capacity (essentially unlimited with all the these plans from One (classic), One (later), Magenta etc. There are differences with hotspot capacity etc. All of these include Netflix in various configs.

Included in the plan
Talk & text
Unlimited
High-speed data
Unlimited 4G LTE on every additional line, including free
Mobile hotspot
3G mobile hotspot included. (512 kbps) Optional 4G high-speed data available. 5GB, 10GB, 20GB depending on the plan
Taxes and fees included
No annual service contract
Netflix™
Select one streaming benefit to add to your plan
Video Streaming Quality
Optional with an HD Day Pass or included with T-Mobile ONE Plus. Or Magenta Plus
Optimized video streaming
Simple Global (texting and data abroad)
Texting and 2G (128kbsp) data speeds in 210+ destinations. 256kbps with PLUS/Max (good enough for checking emails around the world, works for Facetime/Whatsapp AUDIO) I found 256 works for navigation as well in Europe (Apple Maps, Waze, Google). 128 kbps did not work so well while driving, same for Spotify (need to adjust quality then)

Overseas voice calling
$0.25/minute in Simple Global Countries.

Gogo in-flight benefits
In-flight texting and 1 hour of Wi-Fi.

$5 discount per line up to 4/8 lines with AutoPay enabled.
Shared Add-ons
Netflix Standard $13.99 with Family Allowances ($19 value)
$3.00 (various setups: 1 screen, 2, 4, HD, 4K etc.)

So with kickback at account level when converted to the 9-12 SOC, does it mean all 12 lines will receive kickback on both paid and free lines? That is with the assumption that the lines do not go over 2GB.
only first 9 lines will get kickback, 10 to 12 wouldn't get
