I went to Hamer Toyota and they had balls to mark those up 3k plus 1k gps add-on. Came to $56.5k with no negotiation because stimulus money is here and dealers wants it all. Sad state

Hydrogen Fuel cell is exempt from CA rebate income limits.

CA applies to both. Federal is for purchase only.

I was browsing the Chevy Bolt thread when I heard about this deal.
After a few days of research, I took a test drive then pulled the trigger last week.

I absolutely love the car and this is a bonkers deal.

I did a blog post where I pulled together everything I learned about the car and the deal. I also added my first fueling experience.

I hope the info helps some of you make your choice. This is a niche car so it's not for everyone, but there's a lot of benefits if you can deal with the issues of owning a hydrogen car.

I just refueled last Thursday and it was $16.8/kg.
I went into more details on the refueling experience as well as cost comparison vs gasoline in my review (http://www.zr07.com/2021/03/2021-...lexus.html).

One would need to burn approximately 1.77 million btu's (MBTU) of natural gas in a combustion turbine generate the electricity to power a battery EV for 300 miles on the EPA's 1.25X accelerated combined driving cycle. For a more efficient combined cycle gas turbine generator system, 1.18 MBTU's of natural gas would be required. But only 0.81 MBTU's of natural gas would be required to generate enough hydrogen to power a fuel cell EV for 300 miles. On a full cycle well to wheels basis, then, the hydrogen powered fuel cell electric vehicle is between 1.5 to 2.2 times more energy efficient than a battery EV in converting natural gas to vehicle fuel.

https://www.energy.gov/sites/prod...ry_evs.pdf
Forgetting the FUD and flat out wrong numbers, it's still a good thing we don't use much natural gas for electricity generation.

In a world where all electricity comes from gas I suppose hydrogen would start to make some sense.

Excellent blog. Thx for putting it together.
Can you speak about the cost and features of the extended maintenance package?

Due to my previous and continual reading about FCEV, my news feed is constantly updating me about and hydrogen EV articles. The most recent shows current and future hydrogen stations. Please absolutely do NOT use this information as part of your decision to purchase a FCEV.

https://fuelcellsworks.com/news/c...-1st-2021/

- Currently CA has 44 hydrogen fuel stations. These include hydrogen only but most of them are located at regular gas stations.
- 9 are in retail construction
- 39 retail permitting
-16 proposed
- 5 dual passenger and truck stations announced
- 72 retail funded but not in any development stages

So if you to the quick math of adding up the 44 existing partially workin hydrogen stations + 9 new + 39 permitted + 16 proposed + 5 dual + 72 funded = that equals to exactly 44!

That's 44 current and most likely the same number, or even LESS. I bought the 2021 Mirai with this in mind and not going to fool myself otherwise. If you haven't accepted this reality the please do NOT even consider buying this car. As a very few people have said in this channel, I test drove it, did my research, accepted the compromise of limited fueling stations, accepted the high risk of total depreciation, understand the total cost of ownership, and love the car.

Thanks. The extended maintenance pkg extends the free 3yrs to 6 for $2k more. So $667/yr for yrs 3-6. Not knowing how much the Mirai requires in maintenance, I think this is a good deal so I got it. I also got the paint protection for $700. This is a bit high but I think it's worth it. In fact, my bad luck already gave me a small nick (a dot really) on the front left after 3 days of driving. My paint protection isn't until next Wednesday sigh...Hopefully they can put a touch of white paint to cover it before they seal.

It's non-refundable, but your understanding of 'amount you owe' is incorrect. In tax terms, 'amount you owe' is the total net tax payment for the year calculated in your filing, regardless of what you already paid at the time of filing. As long as your calculated net tax is greater than 8K after all other credits, then 8K will be added to your tax refund.

It's generally not a good idea to have unpaid taxes beyond the end of the year. You'll incur unnecessary penalties and interest.
If you clam the child tax credit, check how this will affect how much tax you can offset with the EV credit, since " the child tax credit is a higher priority credit and will be deducted from the tax before the EV credit is deducted."

The tire pressure on my Mirai was 42 PSI cold, and 47 PSI hot. This felt a bit too close to the maximum rated 51 PSI of the tires for my comfort. I brought it down to 33 PSI cold, the listed pressure on the side of the car door, and ride quality improved.

Yeah, wait for a car that burns methane. Then you can hook a hose up to your butt and fart away and fill your "gas" tank up! 💩😷
