You'll be pretty disappointed on every deal that pops up on any 14" or smaller ultrabook, hoping for RAM upgrades, they don't exist.
Its like saying, "but there's no number keypad, that might be an issue for me..." While its pretty standard that neither of these options/features are available on the smaller sized laptops.
If either is important for ya, you'll have better luck with the larger 15.6"+ sized ones. Obviously, you're sacrificing the portability, weight and what not of the compact ones but if you need RAM or a keypad, that's the only option.

How does 12gb work in terms of dual channel? Is the first 8gb dual channel while the system stops using dual channel once that gets filled up?
Yes, see my reply. The first 8GB (4GB & 4GB) is dual channel, the remainder (4GB) of the larger 8GB is then single channel.

Confirmed on Lenovo's spec page:

This laptop is single channel. Dual channel requires each ram slot to have the same amount. This is most likely 8GB + 4GB.
I don't think this is always true with soldered ram. I think it depends on whether all the ram is soldered to the motherboard. I think it might be 6+6 dual channel. The Yoga C940 has 8GB, 12GB or 16GB max / 3733MHz LPDDR4x. It doesn't have a socket and the RAM is soldered to the systemboard. If no ram slot, then likely 6+6

How does this compare against the Dell xps deal... Any insights please
Can't speak to this particular model, but I've had horrible luck with Yoga models in the past. Went through 2 Yogas and a Yoga2pro in 4 years. All with failed motherboards/screens just going black. Even with sending them in for fixes they happened again. I've since sworn off these models; would probably only get the Carbon. It's a shame because this price point feels like a steal with these specs. If you find an XPS with these exact same specs, get it.

seen the same thing on BB for 589 OB, wanted to know if it's worth it.

Great price but the reliability needs to be there.

That is only happening when you use Ram modules or partially soldered Ram, not for fully soldered memory. For fully soldered Memory where the memory chips are directly soldered in motherboard, you can even have 3GB or any sized Ram configured in dual channel.
And for Dual channel, you can actually go 4GB+8GB in Flex mode where the first 8GB will run in Dual Channel.

This is so incorrect. 14" does not equate to 'not upgradable' for "every deal"

I recently purchased a very similar Lenovo yoga unit and the first thing I did was double the ram AND add a second nvme.

Actually, that's not entirely true. Unless we know exactly what type of board it's using, it can absolutely be running on dual channel for the first 4GBs and the remainder of the 8GB is then single channel.

It's recommended that Ram sizes match for dual channel, but it's not a requirement. All depends on the board and how they have it working with the system.
That is not valid for fully soldered memory where the memory chips which you see in the Ram modules, are directly soldered in the motherboard. You can have literally any size of Ram running in dual channel for fully soldered memory.

Anyone know where to get a nice used Dell 2 in 1 13 inch 7000 series *I-5 or better ) for the cheapest price? I have had a 13 " 7000 series since 2016 and dropped it several times EEK! And it still worked. So now I'm kind of stuck with wanting a newer one because my laptop is now kind of beat up ( cracked screen, loud fan etc ) Maybe a nice one from 2018/19,20. I don't have the money for a new one. Any help would be appreciated Peace.

I do want to chime in here as a heavy notebook user (I've purchased and used 5 notebooks over the last 3 years for work, including dell xps and lenovo yoga 14)

I personally prefer lower res screens for my usage. newer screens with higher res tend to be huge battery drains. the downside is that lower brightness makes it harder to see outside. however, I'm usually just doing work on my laptop, and battery life is much more of a concern than getting a 4k screen on a 13" to 14" size.

Edit: wanted to add - notebook reviews these days of 4k/OLED/WLED screens typically mention battery tradeoffs so you can find more info there.

Thanks, OP.

Also the proper Best Buy site has it as well, free next day shipping or store pickup. Some cards have AMEX Offers for Best Buy as well.

I would get the XPS 13" if you do not plan on using the 2 in 1/touchscreen features AND do not care about graphics processing/gaming. It's a higher quality device.
