Bought this last time. Product is acceptable for the price, the pins that hold the two halves of the "barbell" feel somewhat unsafe, I wrapped mine in tape. Also the pins aren't great if you want to back squat. Wrap it in a towel or get a foam cover.

As for the box, it was absolute garbage. I picked up one off the rack and the box disintegrated. Picked up a few others and had the same results. Having someone else help you pick it up and put it into the cart is helpful only to have four support points on the box rather than two.

I have had barbells with these same pins in the garage for two decades. No need to worry about longevity, it's a good product

I have over 25 years in the fitness industry and this is a common confusion for those not deep into the gym life.

The type of barbell that you see in a commercial gym setting is termed "Olympic" barbell. Usually 7 ft long, 28mm thick and weighs around 45lbs. Uses weight plates with 2 inch holes.

This item is a "standard" size. Small, shorter, thinner and lighter. Uses 1 inch "standard" plates. Mainly for beginners and small home gyms. Generally you won't find these in commercial gyms except perhaps in a group cardio/weightlifting class. Point is, they really aren't the "standard".

Most likely you are referring to Olympic barbells.

I would rather order from Wuhan China than Walmart. It will get here faster. I ordered the weider hex dumbbells posted here a few months back...I waited and waited and then they just sent me an email saying sorry, package is missing and we have to cancel the order. That's 2 months of waiting. Just use amazon

I just do 4 sets of 25 for this 100 pound set. I also use it for front squat into a press lift, squats and straight up curls. For 45 bucks, you can't go wrong and probably sell it to someone else for 40 bucks later on. I'm not lifting for bulging muscle, it's for tone.

Definitely call ahead to check if your Walmart still has these in stock; the website was pretty accurate for me while Brickseek was not. That said, this set is an absolutely great price just for the weight. The bar is nothing special, and I personally did not feel that safe about the included pins (The 5ft bar comes in 2 separate pieces held together by 2 pins that fall out constantly unless hammered, but even then it doesn't feel particularly secure). I opted to use some longer nuts and bolts myself and the bar feels much more solid (100 lb capacity). The weights and bar are standard (1" instead of Olympic 2") but this set will definitely get the job done for some starter exercises. If anything, the weights themselves are definitely worth it and you can spend a bit to get an authentic 5-7 foot standard bar!
