I love this mouse, I'm a 3D artist / video editor and game from time to time.

Even the fact it's corded, the middle scroll wheel is rounded which is comfortable for long 3D modeling sessions, it's also pretty solid and doesn't slide or feel flimsy when you move the button from left to right. All the new mice have this weird tire feel to them and feels cheap and wobbly. Let's not get started with the eventual double click issue (google / reddit it). It's not if it happens, it's when.

And in case you're wondering if I've tried others, yes, I've owned quite a few Logitech mice. After Logi stopped selling them a few years back, I was so sad. I eventually moved over to a G400 which was a lighter cheaper version of the MX518. It was okay but definitely wasn't the MX518. I also have a G903 and eventually the G703 for the wireless charging capabilities on the overpriced charging mouse pad.

I was very happy when they announced a revival of the MX518. I ended up buying 3 of them when they dropped to $20, which is a no brainer at that price.

The only thing that could make it perfect is a wireless version. Otherwise it's a great mouse. Is it for everybody? No, but calling it the worst is a bit far fetched.

The best mouse right now IMO hands down, is the Logitech G Pro X Superlight Wireless Gaming Mouse. Is it a ripoff at $149, yes absolutely. When I first tried it it was actually too light and I was a little hestitant about it... but paired with the wireless charging battery from PowerPlay mouse pad, it's the perfect weight, ergonomics and build quality (middle mouse is rounded but is also not flimsy) and so far it's worked perfectly.

But going back to the MX518, at $20 dollars? Uhm yeah, it's not a good mouse, it's a great mouse.
Hands down favorite mouse. I've had these for so many years I've lost count. Most of the internals fit in the OG casing with little it no mods. I've been using the same case since forever! I'm definitely in it for another.

using it now from last time this same deal hit.. be aware though this mouse does not work in the mouse PS/2 port with adapter..Logitech support had no idea what I was talking about and kept saying just plug it into USB port. I told them I ran out of USB ports, but whatever I made room and now use it in USB port only. works fine.

I also got this mouse during the last deal. It's a great mouse. I like the look and that it's more 'simple' compared to some of those cyborg looking alternatives. My only wish is if it was larger. I wear a medium when I shop for gloves and I found this mouse to be on the small side. But I was able to get used to its size.

This is absolutely the worst wired mouse Logitech has produced in the past 20 years, so I'm intrigued to find someone who likes it.

And more importantly, why?

Even if you're left handed, there's nothing to like about this mouse, as it's not perfectly center weighted.

Any lefties use this mouse? It seems like it would work but can't tell if it is a contoured design or ambidextrous with buttons only for right handed thumbs.

It's definitely asymmetrical and designed for right hand. There are two thumb buttons and the contour on the left side is further down, while the contour on the right is flatter. Take a look at the shape in 3D: https://www.rtings.com/mouse/tool...ntation=3D

This is my favorite gaming mouse. I had an original MX518 (bright red, like the stapler on Office Space) that I used until the black grippy stuff by the thumb turned into a sticky goo and I couldn't stand touching it anymore. Many great hours of playing Counterstrike, Civ 3, the Sims, Starcraft, Diablo, etc with it. I was so happy when they re-released it (and at a reasonable price!) that I bought 4 of them. I've used one. Three are still in the box, ready to be put into service when needed. I've tried a half dozen more expensive "cyborg" looking mice, nice high end gaming mice, cheapie generic mice, etc. This one is still my favorite. It is contoured for the right hand (sorry lefties). At $20 even if you aren't in love with it, it's a good deal. Search eBay for "MX518 red" to see the original. There is at least one on there. They are highly sought after.
