Because the $200 ones for the most part have Celeron processors and are relatively slow even for Chromebooks...Not everyone needs a Windows or Mac PC...

Agreed. This Chromebook is awesome with 4K display i5 processor, great build. Looks better than most Windows and Mac laptops.

Chromebook has more uses than you think. Not to mention Linux, multiple monitors support, and expanding functions every month.

Besides having a 10th gen i5, it also has a 4k OLED screen. I doubt you'll find any windows laptop with an OLED panel for as cheap. I don't own this, but imagine an i5 running ChromeOS must be blazing fast.

Different people have different priorities for their portables. Some tablets are much more expensive than this chromebook and yet many people still buy them.

Hope your question has been answered.

Typing this from my galaxy chromebook now. I got this before all the sales and really love it. The build quality on this is top notch. The build quality is even better than the last XPS 13 I used and dare I say it, even better than the last macbook air I used. Chrome has it's quirks but this really can handle anything you can throw at it with ease.

Only cons - 1) Battery life is low. Like 4-6 hours low. You can charge it via usbc and any battery pack will work so that's good at least. 2) There is some issues with the blacks being too black on low brightness. This does bother me a little while watching netflix in bet with the brightness down but it's not terrible. Here is a good redit thread about it and a workaround fix https://www.reddit.com/r/chromeos...cks_issue/

Not natively. You can run Windows in a VM but it's not a great experience. Parallels for Chrome OS is out there for enterprise solutions, but individuals can't use it (yet?).

I want to buy it. My only concern is rumors of it overheating and the processor slowing down to prevent this. Is this a frequent/real issue for those that have it? Maybe it was fixed with a software update?

How do we see this? I only see 599 for trade-in case and 899 when I disable trade-in... (fiesta red/256 GB/8GB/i5).

- I see a comment earlier now, that I need EDU account to see it.

My auto is off but I have been using night light. I'll try turning it off. Thanks.

Overheating? No. Does it get hot? Yes. This is passively cooled, so dead quiet, but at the price of not being something you should cozy up into your lap depending upon how hard you're using it (gaming vs. browsing).

They may be out there, and I'd be interested to read them, but ChromeOS is so targeted at minimal horsepower CPUs that I've rarely read a meaningful review of an Intel-based model - especially one using the higher power Core-series - that said "I wish it had a little extra oomph"!

Instead what I've usually read are reviews like those for Google's higher end models that note the system to be snappy but otherwise feeling like the premium CPU seems overkill for the typical load demanded of the system.

Good luck!
