I bought a similar Costco deal in February. I called the local contractor the day prior to delivery. She tried to tell me there was no haul-away, which was incorrect. With some pressing and after waiting on hold, she obliged saying they'd only do it at no charge because it was for Costco. Day of, one guy delivered the appliance and 3 hours later a second guy came to install. I had removed the old dishwasher myself and was ready (note that they won't remove it for you). When the installer unboxed he found a fist-sized dent in the back of the new dishwasher and one of the adjustable plastic feet was broken off and then he dragged his feet and ultimately refused to install it. Long story short, Costco, who processes the order for Whirlpool to fulfill, has these shipped directly from Whirlpool, so when I called Costco customer service, they pawned me off on Whirlpool who scheduled a replacement delivery. I called Whirlpool the day before the replacement delivery and was assured everything was good to to go, then waited around for the 4 hour window and nobody showed up. I called Whirlpool and Costco and both said "Aw, gee, that unit is back ordered until May, whoops." So I installed the damned new-but-dented dishwasher myself and it's great, really like it, but holy cripes what a massive runaround and waste of my time.

And again, I just told the short version!
Kitchenaid is a very reputable brand in line with Maytag and owned by Whirlpool. I do not have experience with this particular model, but I do have Kitchenaid DW in my kitchen for last 7 years w/o a single issue. I use mine almost everyday.
Good brand. Bosch is another people should look at when shopping (I think Bosch tends to be the most quiet - they even have an indicator light so you can tell when it's running, since it's so quiet).

Personally I'm interested in a new Bosch with a 3rd/top rack. Seems useful for getting more into the same load.

Any experience with Costco's free installation? Do I need to unhook the dishwasher before they come in?

(nevermind, saw 2 people mentioned the contractor will do the uninstallation)
are you sure? I think Costco has it in writing we have to disconnect the old one ourselves.

Thia is good timing. My nearly 20 year old Bosch just went out. While I'd love another Bosch, I don't make Bosch dollars anymore. $500 plus a 4 year warranty - good enough.

The costco delivery team drop off the new unit and pickup the old dishwasher, but you have to unhook everything yourself first. All they do is haul away.

The 2nd appointment will have a local installer / contractor to hook the new unit up. Since my pipes and electrical are up to codes, so I just had to pay for my city permit.

YMMV
I have never heard of anyplace requiring a permit to put in a dishwasher.

No one would ever pay such a fee here even if the local government was foolish enough to require it. They would collect a grand total of zero dollars.

Anyone have experience with this model/brand?
Bought this dishwasher about 5-6 month ago. We use our dishwasher everyday having 4 kids. It is super quite and does a great job of cleaning and steam drying the dishes. We have a newer black stainless Samsung in the basement and this kitchenaid dries much better. Our last whirlpool lasted 3 years before it started leaking. Would definitely recommend at this price.

IMO 3rd rack is overrated/limited use. If it is fully loaded to the point the 3rd rack is needed, the items in the middle rack will obstruct the jets from hitting the 3rd rack at full power.
Standard / generic third racks, I would tend to agree.

But KitchenAid's FreeFlex 3rd Rack is awesome. The FreeFlex rack has two built-in spray bars that rotate and do a great job at cleaning the glasses and mugs that lay at a slight incline on that FreeFlex rack. Unfortunately, you'll have to step up from this $500 slickdeal and pay closer to $1000-1200 for a unit that has the FreeFlex 3rd rack.

The amount of stuff I can put into our KitchenAid 404 series dishwasher is insane. To the point that we typically run the dishwasher much less during the week, because we can fit so much more in it. So not only does it use less water (~2.5gal for the normal cycle, vs 6gal for the previous dishwasher), but we're running it probably 30% less over the course of a week due to the increased interior volume.

Would you buy this over the 404?

No, this is a lower spec model.

My previous comment / post was primarily about the usefulness of the 3rd rack, and that there are superior solutions on the market if you want to step up for something better.

How does this KitchenAid model compare to the following Maytag that was on sale a bit back? Maytag Steel Tub Dishwasher w/ Dual Power Filtration (MDB4949SKZ)

How is it a lower spec model other than not having the 3rd rack?

The beep can be turned off as a setting.

No issues with my 800 series with cleaning. How dishes are loaded, detergent used and water temperature plays a factor as well.

+1 Every appliance thread is going to have someone posting a nightmare experience.

Not sure which model you have but the 2-year old 800 series model dries really well. No issues with filter cleaning (no tools required).

Detergent used is a factor. Also run Dishwasher Magic every now and then to clean the interior plumbing..

Mind telling me how to turn off the beep? There are no buttons or indicators on it that show it can be turned off and I dont have a manual.
