This is true 100%

I had a back up tracfone, loaded for a years service that I kept in my car. Didn't use it for months and when I actually needed it, guess what it was deactivated. I called CS and they told me if the phone isn't being used on a semi regular basis they deactivate it. I told them this was AN EMERGEMCY PHONE THAT I PREPAID FOR A YEARS SERVICE and their reply was "sorry sir, that's our policy."

How true is this?
you most probably will have to deal with the customer service to merge everything which is a YMMV. that may be the reason for that comment

Will this work in a T-Mobile mobile hotspot device like the Franklin T9?

Many reps have no clue about these sims.
I wouldn't take a chance on trying to activate one with a Verizon locked TF, it will be frustrating.
If you have a TF capable of GSM (recent DL models) AT&T or T-mo TF sim can be activated (keep number & balance will total) because it doesn't tie sim to phone IMEI.
You can then reactivate the old sim if you want - keeping number - & phone number/plan will switch back to Verizon service on original sim. Your 12 months to unlock will likely start over due to reactivation if that makes a difference.
Hope that makes sense, there's more info in details at beginning of thread.

I could confirm that after dealing with customer service and then I'm able to load into existing account.

Why not just put waze on your primary phone?
Becaise Waze is a battery drainer. I rather save my primary phone's battery. I just like to keep a spare in the car.

anyone still getting empty sims? Luckily I don't need to worry until 2023 but it was only a few months ago the customer reps over the phone did not want to activate these sims from an existing account.

I tried to activate this myself w/o those nice instructions. This was a few months after Christmas for my parents. Couldn't get it to work. When I asked for help, they responded via ebay message/email fast but provide the main tracfone customer service number. They even provide their name and employee ID in response, but its BS. They are NOT Tracfone and only resell. Kudos if you get it to work but I couldn't. When I called multiple times Tracfone insisted the SIM cards I had did not have any minutes loaded on them and couldn't activate the SIM w/o enabling a plan. We finally came to the conclusion my Dad has been unable to use the phone for the past year and doesn't go out alone anymore... bye bye phone # he's had forever... and no refund since it was 90 days after purchase. Seller refused to refund.

Why not just plug in your phone while driving so your battery doesnt drain?

They don't actually send you a code, and haven't for at least a year. You have to do the swap SIM, and existing number port. Is it Verizon, or a different carrier (ATT/Tmo)? It's more complicated if it's Verizon...

If you open your Tracfone rewards account with just one 8000 point referral you can use those points to add a free year of service
From the rewards points page only see 10,000 points for 365 days service being the cheapest year-long under basic plan. I guess they have raised the price.

It is still a good deal (I have ~16k points from referrals which results in spending total of $19.99 for two years of service with Verizon network with 2400 total minutes/text) for my mom. She doesn't use data. The phone itself was $9.99 rebel 4 so for low usage user (<100min/mo) it is a great setup.

Tracfone doesn't support hotspot. You may get it to work, but they may then cancel your service.

I think DeltaMajor is referring to the 2,000 pts for 90 days basic plan x 4 = one year of service for 8K. It's good to extend service time, but only includes minimal minutes.

Trac used to have a $50/1yr addon through the web site but it wasn't available with points. Don't know if it's still there.

It's a bit more complicated then because you have to also supply an IMEI. Last I tried this, supplying the IMEI of the phone that's already attached to the old SIM ICCID# will result in an error. Tbh, you might be better off buying two of these cards, and having a second "donor" unlocked phone available. So you activate to the donor phone with the first card, and then use the second card to activate back to the original phone. I'm not sure how soon after you can do though for the second card, as I've never personally tried this myself, yet.
