people may be better off add 5900 or just downgrade to 5600 to save buckets

True but in comparison to intels new 11th gen offerings, this is a steal.

Also as others pointed out, this is MSRP and the 5800x is the least desirable of the new zen 3 chips due to price/performance, at my local MC it has been sitting on shelves for months now. If youre looking for bang for your buck performance for gaming/general use (workstations that need high core counts for professional work) Intel 10th gen is on deep discount (including mobo) and has better price to performance and only really loses in highly threaded applications to Zen 3, and ties Intel gen 11.
It was their "First Responder Discount" they put in place last year. Some Googling shows that some stores no longer offer it and others do. LIkely an inconsistent application across stores, but it does not hurt to ask.
And yes, it does appear that the discount varies based upon the product as would be the case with employee discount due to the many High-Cost Low-Margin Items.

Probably due to the kickback SD gets from anyone ordering through their link.

State of retail. Besides, I'd be more happy finding something I've been waiting months for at msrp, than buying something I don't really need at deep discount.
