True but in comparison to intels new 11th gen offerings, this is a steal.

Sometimes "in stock at MSRP" IS a slick deal these days, especially for someone who needs one last piece to their build. I was thrilled to get 2 5600x's the other day at msrp of 299 for some builds i was completing for friends/family.

Fyi to Micro-Center shoppers. If you are in public safety (fire/police and maybe others), show your ID for a pretty decent discount on most items. I think it's just about the employee discount which is cost +15%? I am probably wrong on those numbers.

Good thing we haven't seen those already overpriced Nvidia 30XX GPU's then...

When I worked there long ago this wasnt a thing, but if it is today, youre not going to save that kind of money on a CPU, they are sold at low to no margin, with the expectation that the salesmen will up sell high margin accessories, like AV, cables, thermal paste, etc. So its helpful information but not particularly if youre just going for a CPU or GPU.

Also as others pointed out, this is MSRP and the 5800x is the least desirable of the new zen 3 chips due to price/performance, at my local MC it has been sitting on shelves for months now. If youre looking for bang for your buck performance for gaming/general use (workstations that need high core counts for professional work) Intel 10th gen is on deep discount (including mobo) and has better price to performance and only really loses in highly threaded applications to Zen 3, and ties Intel gen 11.

I did a google yes it is/was a thing.

It was their "First Responder Discount" they put in place last year. Some Googling shows that some stores no longer offer it and others do. LIkely an inconsistent application across stores, but it does not hurt to ask.

And yes, it does appear that the discount varies based upon the product as would be the case with employee discount due to the many High-Cost Low-Margin Items.

Glad AMD is finally forcing Intel to adjust pricing to compete. Competition is good.

Ryzen 3700x is on sale at Newegg for $320. Is the 5800x really worth $130 price increase? I know there's a big IPC gain but just doesn't seem like a great value

Confused why this is on the FP. Not sure when an item was designated a "slickdeal" because it's in stock.
Probably due to the kickback SD gets from anyone ordering through their link.

State of retail. Besides, I'd be more happy finding something I've been waiting months for at msrp, than buying something I don't really need at deep discount.
