If you want to game, it's better to spend the extra $50 on the $600 HP that Walmart has.

They are a Ryzen 3500 (6-core) with a GTS 1650 Super. A 1650 Super is roughly twice the graphical performance of a 5700G.

This is currently single channel so it will hurt the performance of the computer with graphics being hurt the most.
I really do like the processor here, but there's a few things that keeps this back from being a "you should purchase" and more of a "you could purchase"

Thank you for the insight. If we pull the trigger, I was already thinking I'd throw another stick of 16gb RAM in the open slot later.

Yeah, definitely want to do that earlier rather than later. I personally would advise a matching kit and selling the chip it comes with. Always want matching speeds of RAM. Personally I would maybe even just get 2x8gb. I think 16gb if still plenty for 99% of things

I looked at this [youtube.com] youtube review and it shows reasonable framerates @ 1080p, but doesn't say @ what settings. I have a few of those games and they run decently on high to very high settings with a 1660. They really look like crap in that video to me (I hate using low settings because on games like that it makes look like they're about 10 years old). Trying to dig up benches or whatnot on this APU and best I can tell is that it scores lower than a 1650. I would suggest a 1650s minimum at this point in time for 1080p gaming if you like to play the latest and greatest AAA FPS & action titles. If you're fine with low to medium settings then this might do the trick for a while. And if adventure games, some sims, most MMOs, RTS, etc style games are your thing then this would be perfectly fine as those games are more CPU dependent than GPU. But all of this is besides the point because when some people ask the question about using this for gaming they want to know if they can add a discrete graphics card into this system (several of them have asked that very question in this thread) and these pre-built systems typically aren't very good for that because of the limited power (this one in particular someone on reddit reported that it has a wimpy 180w PSU), limited room, and limited cooling options. Sure, you could limp by on this for a year or so and hope that things will return back to normal with the pricing of things, but to me it just seems like a waste because it's a dead upgrade path if PC gaming is your thing. And yet another thing that somebody else brought up is the smallish size of the only drive in this PC (games are getting freaking huge now). That's not a deal breaker there but still something that a prospective buyer is going to have to spend a bit more on.

I wouldn't even chance using a 1650. Yes it draws its power from the graphics card PCI express slot, but it's still more demand on the system. You risk frying something, especially with these low grade no name PSUs that OEMs use.

Yeah, I bought a OEM HP desktop years ago and every little thing on them is proprietary in one way or another. Remember changing out the motherboard and PSU in it and was a major PITA and this is coming from someone who loves to tinker with things. I was able to get a standard mATX motherboard in there but the standoffs were all in the wrong spots (had to drill and tap a couple of standoffs and break a few off). Getting a standard PSU in there was also fun. Even the wiring connections for the front panel garbage were non standard. And these systems are meant to be somewhat compact so there isn't much cooling (that CPU cooler probably wouldn't do a whole lot for you since the case most likely doesn't have enough airflow to begin with). Like I was saying in an above post, these pre-built systems are a dead upgrade path.

I was just looking online at microcenter and a 3200G is $130 and unfortunately there doesn't look like there is a motherboard bundle for it. That would be a okay deal if there was a bundle then just keep the microcenter motherboard for this chip (even a cheap $100 motherboard would be worlds better than this one LOL), put the 3200G in there and then profit.

A possible problem with this plan is that I think B550 chipset that's inside of this HP no longer supports 3200G and 3400G.

There are tons of ports. You can even see 4 usbs just in front + 4 in the back. The description in the post is wrong.

Somebody posted this info: The front has 4 USB-A superspeed ports, and 1 USB-C superspeed. The back has 2 USB-A superspeed & 2 USB-A 2.0 Ports.

I can confirm 2 blue ports at the back.
I take it that superspeed are usb3, which means 6 usb3 and 2 usb2, plus 1 usb-c.
