HI All

I recently purchased a laptop with a Intel cpu but I have a chance to upgrade to a AMD Laptop for 20 bucks more. I havnt opened the intel unit so i should be able to return it with no problems. If you guys had a choice between a laptop with a intel I5-1145g7 cpu with a 512gb SSD or a AMD laptop with a amd ryzen 7 4700u with a 256gb SSD which would u go with for investing and business programs? No gaming. Is it worth all the hassle to wrap it up and take it to the post office?

thanks

I like the ryzen processors, but most likely there are other things beyond the spec sheet that are more significant differences (depending on how you're using it). What are the models of the laptops?

Thermal management, screen, keyboard, and overall build quality will ultimately be more significant than most of the specs (with these processors).

The Ryzen processors are powerful and run relatively cool / low power, but due in part to some agreements Intel has, most Ryzen laptops ended up with relatively crappy screens.

The Ryzen has a higher passmark score but the Iris graphics may be a little better (probably close though).

I think both should work just fine but it may depend on the other parts that each laptop offers.

Are there other differences other than SSD size?

What are the exact models you are looking at?

Do you plan to hook up external monitors or just use the built in monitor? I.E. I use a laptop as a desktop replacement hooked up to a 4k monitor with an external USB 3 dock, keyboard, and mouse hooked up to it.

Inspiron 14 & 15 are going to be similar obviously.

Personally I'd probably choose the larger screen and AMD processor. However, if you return the intel you'll be subject to a 15% restocking fee plus return shipping. This may make the price difference large enough that it makes more sense to keep the intel.

I'm not sure the exact configuration you ended up with, but the Intel version says one of its USB-C ports is 3.2 Gen 2 while the other says USB 3.2 Gen 1. Gen 2 is faster, but just because it says Gen 2 doesn't mean it is. Would have to do more research if that matters to you.

jkee brings up a good point about the restocking fee.

Other than the USB difference, they seem very similar. Like jkee, I'd probably go with the larger screen and faster processor, but the restocking fee plays into that decision.
