Up to 830 is because if you buy 12mini it will have trade in credit or only $730 and not $830 and it you buy 12pro or pro max then you will only get $830 and rest will be on you. That's what upto $830 means so yes iPhone 8 will get you upto $830 depending on the device you choose
Where is Costco? They use to have similar deal as Tmobile but not lately. Wonder if we didn't kill the golden goose by canceling "new line" after getting the rebate.
For those of you trying to get a phone from SWAPPA like a iPhone 8 or S9 series, make sure you do order from an individual seller where the item/images clearly display the listing number.

In that case it's a unique listing offer and the IMEI will be displayed on the sales page right after your purchase. If you order good quality or spend $10 more for mint you should be golden. Once purchased on the sales page you will see the serial number (IMEI):

If you order from an enterprise seller with generic images and none displays the unique listing number the IMEI will NOT show up and you may have to wait until they are back in the office on Monday and the deal could be over.

So what is the upfront cost for the IP12 ($829.99) if you have a like brand new Samsung A71 (bought from last X-mas deal) to trade in? Is the offer available at a T-mobile store? For some reason, I am not able to do in online.

Can anyone explain the math behind this deal? This is the first time I do a payment plan for a phone.
So let's say I'll sign the 2-year payment plan for iPhone 12 for $799, which means I'll have to pay $33.3/month. With this promo, T-mobile will give me back $830 in bill credit during those 2 years. So, in the end, the phone is free, right?
tmobile sell high then apple, so iphone 12 for 829.99, and credit back to you 830 with in 24 months, you have pay tax upfront.

I don't understand what you're trying to say in the second half of your post, but perhaps you can try a different Costco.

the iPhone 12 64gb is $830.
But yes, you are correct.
They give you a one time credit for what they value your trade in to be. So let's go with an iPhone 8. They will value it for $80 which is given to you as a one time bill credit, the remainder $750 will be divided into 24 months. So you will pay about $3.50 a month for 24 months...only because they gave you that one time $80 bill credit.

I Hope I explained it well

I looked thru all the documents after my order. I can't see anywhere the $830 promotion.

The email with my order states this:
Once your new iPhone 12 ships, you'll have 30 days to send back your current Samsung SM-A716U Galaxy A71 5G 128GB Black - T-Mobile in good condition to receive a one‑time bill credit of $155.00.

Where I can see that the $830 off deal is applied?

That's how it works, but it's a bit more complicated.

iPhone 12 is $829. You trade in iPhone 8 which they give you $79 statement credit after the trade-in gets approved. They also pay you the remaining balance through monthly credit of $31.25 over 24 months (total $750).

The amount of onetime statement credit and monthly credit vary depending on the device you trade-in but you will get $830 in total regardless.

It's normally automatically enrolled by the system later on. Nothing in your order documents will say it.

Really, I could get full trade value even with back crack glass? Should I go to the store or over the phone for trade?
I took our iphone X, with severe cracks on the back, to a tmobile store, the rep took it to assistant manager, he to the manager. After a thorough review they said it is an acceptable trade-in. The promotion does not show up on my account yet, hopefully it will show up in the next 24 hours.

Despite the $20 fee for in store trade-in, i think it is safest to do it in-store for such cases.
