Not likely. It said value up to $79.99. Most, if not all, brushless tools are $99 or above.

So I'm someone who is not invested in any battery system or tool system currently. Can someone discuss the quality of the tools involved in this deal vs. something like this Dewalt 20v Max brushless drill (DCD777) and impact driver (DCF787) for $159 with 2x1.5A batteries from this deal?
https://slickdeals.net/f/15031189-dewalt-20-volt-max-brushless-drill-driver-impact-driver-combo-kit-2-tool-159?v=1&src=SiteSearch

So with the Ryobi deal in this thread I could (separately) the Ryobi drill and impact driver and wind up with four 3A batteries, whereas the Dewalt I'd get their brand of drill/driver but two 1.5A batteries. Since I'm a home user the extra battery cells would be nice, but I can also pace my work so lack of battery life won't be a dealbreaker. Plus I can always buy more batteries later if it becomes a huge PITA. However if the Ryobi is underpowered junk it won't matter to me if I get more battery life.

tl;dr how is the quality of the tools in this offer (absent concerns about battery size) vs. competitor brands at similar price points like Dewalt?

Both are entry level brands. Ryobi is is a better brand and has more tools available with the battery system.

Ryobi is also the only brand to not change battery design. The new batteries with the the improvements will still work on original Ryobi products. This is the #1 reason I choose them over other entry level brands.

Ryobi power tools are manufactured by TTI. TTI also makes Milwaukee, homesite, Hoover, vax and ridgid.

Dewalt is manufactured by black and decker. From my experience black and decker has become Walmart cheap crap

Anyone able to provide a top 3 "best value" of tools here? I'm seeing a lot of hedge trimmer interest. Anything else?

Damn, I need 3 of these tools but don't need 6 batteries. Is there a market to sell 4 of the batteries?

Anyone able to direct me to which ones I should buy if I just need a set of power tools for basic screwing in, drilling, etc?

(Clearly not a sophisticated home improvement person but I just need someone for assembling furniture, removing / installing faceplates, etc.)
get a corded drill, it will cost you very little and with your frequency of your usage, you will never have to deal with the battery. or you can just grab the 18v Warrior drill from HF for about $20 after the coupon, it's made well light-weight and will get the job done for 3-4 years.

I leave my batteries in the charger all the time. Never had a problem with my 10+ batteries for the last 6-8 years. Only had one that got a bad cell in it.
Thanks for the info, it makes me wonder if the charger itself was bad.

If you're defining value by biggest refund for the tool then it looks like it would be:

1. Hedge Trimmer $99 (Max refund value: $49.50)

2. Pruning chainsaw $89.97 (Max refund value: $47.13)

3. 1/2" Hammer Drill/Driver $79 (Max refund value: $43.94)

I am personally debating between the chainsaw or the 150-watt power inverter $59.97 (Max refund value: $37.35)

I have an older version of the Hedge trimmer already and would easily recommend to anyone considering getting it.

No offense, but you clearly have no idea what you're talking about. For starters - you clearly don't understand manufacturing. TTI is effectively a contract manufacturer and makes Ryobi's products to Ryobi's specs. They can make a low-end, or a high-end product per the specs provided. Notice they also produce Milwaukee products which are better quality than Ryobi.

I normally just move on without replying to this type of bs, but I can't on this one. Ryobi is not in the same tier as Dewalt. Black and Decker bought Dewalt, that doesn't mean they make Dewalt. Ford owned Jaguar for years, it doesn't mean Jaguars were ever made on the same line as an Escort.

I've owned a lot of battery powered tools over the years including a lot of Ryobi and Dewalt stuff. My Ryobi stuff has sat in tubs for years because the batteries were junk and no longer hold a charge. I've got Dewalt 20V series stuff that's 10 years old that still works like new and the batteries still hold a reasonable charge. If you look around at what builders and contractors use, its normally Dewalt.

That being said, Ryobi has come a long way and does not have the same battery problems they used to because they have real maintenance chargers now rather than the dumb (charge it til it cooks) ones they had for years. For a regular home user Ryobi is fine, but if you can buy Dewalt for not much more, it's well worth spending a little more.
