I received my 77A80j this past weekend. It is pretty amazing and I highly recommend it. Have a 65c8 for comparison and its colors and depth are just something else. Specular highlights and cable sports are amazing. Going to test out PS5 more and other sources after I have more time, but reviewers across the board opine that it is brighter than C1 when compared side by side despite early nit measurements. If you are a hardcore gamer and game on PC or Xbox series X go get the C1 for 4k120 HDR VRR. There is still no VRR on the A80j with Sony promising an update. The Mediatek chip SOC may be the issue, but hopeful Sony can pull it off. However, it works really well right now with PS5 with autodetect game mode. Tech with KG also showed that it excels over C1 with respect to SDR gaming.

Since this is slickdeals, this is the best bang for your buck 2021 oled right now for size and specs. If you dont need a slickdeal ball out for the 83 A90J which is king of 2021. However, A80j also has the newer 2021 LG panel. I believe all North America 2021 oleds (apart from some C1 outliers?) have this newer panel which is ~20% more power efficient, brighter, and likely to be even better against potential burn in.

I have had the LG C8 for 3 years now with no signs of burn in and I have been blasting this TV on HDR and using it as a normal TV.

the default settings have the motion smoothing (I forget the actual name of it, truemotion or something like that) on by default. Motion on my OLED was awful at first until I turned it off. I don't notice any difference now vs. my Pioneer plasma.

600Hz was a marketing term. Plasmas create 10 images flashed on the screen that get combined to create one. There is no motion in those images. A new image, which is what motion would be, is created at 60Hz. Since refresh rate started to become a selling point, and technically plasma created a new image at 600Hz that is what they used. Yet it was in no way what we think of today. You can't play a video at 600Hz on a plasma and actually get that refresh rate.

Thanks for explaining the 600hz plasma thing. I knew it was a marketing thing just by watching my Panasonic plasma. I mean, don't get me wrong, I still think those plasma TVs are great but I figured that 600hz thing was BS even if I didn't know the technical reason why.

I replaced my 65VT60 plasma with a 77A9G last week. The difference in motion is noticeable. I started out with DNice's setting from avsforum, then adjusted the motion\resolution settings and it helps. It doesn't solve the issue. Even watching 4k Dolby Vision on Disney+ has the same issue. I typically don't like adding the processing effects. So far it has helped with motion blur and not created soap opera effect with the settings on low. With so many resolution\motion options it can get difficult to really see how they interact. I've only had the set a week, so I am still working on it.

Well, ignoring motion blur, the OLED is superior in every single way. So, you're going to have to realize that at some point you're going to need to give it up. There's not really going to be anything that truly matches motion blur of a plasma.

OLED response is faster than plasma. What you are seeing is not motion blur. There are artifacts of OLED and general display technology that can be confused with motion blur.

You could be seeing judder, though that's unlikely since most store display content source does not have judder. Source video frame rate for display sets are generally 30/60/120hz. It's possible though unlikely that you are sensitive to BFI. That can be turned off.

Most likely, you've grown acclimated to your plasma TV's motion interpolation and are unaccustomed to seeing video as it was engineered.

These were the models I was comparing as well. I had almost bought the A9G a couple of weeks ago for $2,999. However, given my priorities are the Sony "magic" image processing and slightly bigger screen, it seemed that letting the A80J prices fall to BF levels would be the best slickdeal for me. I have a dedicated media area with a solid Atmos setup - so I don't value the sound and screen enhancements that the master series add over the A8/80 models.

I haven't pull the trigger yet... this drop of $1K is quite tempting. I have a 65" C8 as well... no issues, but going to move the C8 to replace an older LG 55" OLED in another room ;-)

Wow that's awesome. I didn't see it in my warehouse or online yet. I would rather buy from them. cheaper warranty, customer support and return policy that is 90 days.

I recommend Sony for sports, movies and tv shows. Besides this is new model with hdmi 2.1 so gaming should be good as well.
Best Buy has them side by side. I recommend going to see them next to each other and what you think. IMO

I went from a top of the line plasma...Samsung F8500...to an LG OLED
The OLED is a better Tv in every way

The black levels , brightness( in HDR) and lack of heat output will be game changers

According to those that should know...like HDTV test...last years A8H was identical to the year older A9G with the addition of black frame insertion. So this means the A8H is a better set than the A9G
The A80J should be a better set than either of the older units
