The sadistic part of me desperately wants to see one of these kits but it's all hex keys and screwdriver bits. Idk why it's so hard for these guys to offer a legit mix of decent tools that people actually need.

I bought a similar set like this one from Sears a few years ago. My biggest complaint is the plastic case. The tabs holding the drawers from sliding out break over time, the top of the case is poorly designed. Craftsman could of made the top empty space where you could add other wrenches or hand tools you own to this case.

My advice, skip this set. Go pickup a 3 drawer tool box you like. Go to Harbor Freight, buy QUINN 3/8 deep/short socket sets in SAE and Metric to start building your own set. Pickup some socket rails to hold each set of sockets to help keep tool box organized. QUINN brand will work just fine for a weekend mechanic.

I think if you have any plans on taking the set out of the house and bringing it in your vehicle for any reason this set is solid and alreadty organized and is great. It's very convenient to be able to easily lift all your sockets to where your working. Has a drawer for each size ratchet and it's sockets. It also has 1/4 inch ratchet/ with a few sockets which I'm 80% sure you'll need for lug nuts on tires. It has small room for little things on the top with the wrenches, I keep my adapters for putting sockets on my impact there. But if you get the loose set and a toolbox for your home and some socket organizers you'll be happy too and you could wheel your tools around and expand your collection. I'm sure you'll want more wrenches if you do a lot of stuff yourself.

As a mechanic I can tell you that I use a hammer and a knife plenty. That being said, those are things that are easily purchased outside of this kit and often better done so...I'd go so far as to recommend a set of hammers (dead blow, ball peen or two, 4lb sledge, etc) that would be better purchased outside of a tool kit. Same with the knife...I'd prefer to find a good, reliable pocket knife over the "blade holder" style that a lot of kits come with, if they include any cutting tool at all, but I know plenty of people that like the blade holder style too. This could be used as a good starter pack, but likely nothing will ever be considered all inclusive in the $100 price range, so if you are starting off with no tools at all you should expect to expand on whatever you buy at this price.

I get that there are certain occasions you would use a hammer or knife as a mechanic, but it's not something you would normally see in a mechanics set, especially one that is $99. You find things like wrenches, sockets, hex keys, and ratchets. So for someone to be fussing that a hammer wasn't included just seems a bit silly..
