But, using the right tool for your job, the electric hand belt sander, the standing drum sander, or even a thickness planer is the tool. Don't have those, an electric/pneumatic hand sander of whatever flavor and if no powered hand sander, then by hand with sandpaper.
The easiest and cheapest way? Use the appropriate paint stripper for polyurethane removal.

Discount Tools is currently selling the factory blemished for the same price after $7 shipping. The factory blemished one has been on sale for $47 shipped in the past, so if you don't need it now, you could wait it out.

I always plane the hinge side before chisling in the hinges even if it's a tiny amount. It's a really big pain to manually do that 7 feet x how many doors in a house.
Also for triming the top and bottom if you only need to take off 1/4" or less you can make a line with a drywall T and plane right down to that. No circular saw needed. They've been putting that particle board on the bottom a lot anymore so it cuts thru like butter, messy dusty butter.

If you are doing a lot of planing work, it would be ideal to have cordless and wired.
With that being said, if I had to choose one, I would go with the cordless with 8-min run.
