For some reason I was only charged $105.89 for the batteries, bring the total down to $238. Still undecided wether or not to pick them up though.

Ekk, I'm already deeply invested into Dewalt (10 powertools, 15+ 5Ah batteries and so on). Is it worth limping into another ecosystem? I do love Makita, I have many of their drill bits and bit accessories.

I'm already into Makita and considered milwaukee because of their ratchets. But makita makes such good tool I just decided to stay with them. But can we ever have enough tools? Probably not.

Haha, Home Depot had a Memorial Day timer on this, implying the sale would be over when the time ran out, but it is still 249. However, the top handle version went to 349.

Has anyone actually used both the top handle and rear handle models? Which did you prefer? I bought the top handle on the memorial day sale (still in transit to me) but am wafflong on whether to keep that or go with the rear handle. I'm right handed, so obviously prefer the blade to be left mounted on saw.

Not worm drive, Makita doesn't even make a worm drive saw, they favor hypoid saws. This saw also has a higher RPM than the sidewinder as well. Basically while much of what you said is true, very little of it applies to these Makita saws.
