Those prefilters are the outside sleeves and main particle/carbon filter lasts about 6 month per manual. OEM filter costs ~$80 so ~$160 per yr. Filter cost is definitely on the expensive side compared to some other brands that last ~1 yr on $70-80 OEM filter.
Reading is fundamental. Amazon site was for reference, OMG.
Fyi, the filters are not HEPA but some proprietary kind.

Awesome deal ahead of CA fire season. Returning the 221+ that I paid more for by covers less sq ft. Read that they have the same internals while this one is a little taller with a larger filter.

Considering putting this in my basement office/adjoining room. Would this make the room smell any "fresher"? I don't suffer from allergies so I'm thinking it's not really needed.

I'm a huge fan of blue air, top rated across consumer reports and wire cutter. One call out these aren't the automatic air filters that adjust fan speed based on air quality. As long as you're willing to do manual adjustments, they're great. I have a mix of automatic blue air and manual blue air throughout the house. If I did it over again, I would buy larger units like this one.

This is a little subjective but I personally haven't noticed what I would call "fresher" from these. I have a 121 and two 211+.

Our neighbor had a fire going outside the other day. We could smell the smoke in the house. I couldn't tell if it was making it better or not - but I could definitely still smell the smoke smell in the house.

I keep the 121 in a living room and the two 211 in bedrooms. The stats on them both sound good and they are well reviewed, but for some reason I haven't found the "freshness" factor to be one of its strong points.

I would agree with this, you don't notice a freshness necessarily. I do think it makes a substantial difference with smoke, we actually have Awair and Temtop air quality units, very noticeable improvements in internal air quality measures when the blue air is on.

I got one last year with the CA wildfires. Works great! In the real world, I really like this one. Later on, all the reviews seem to say it's one of the best. From the design of the airflow and filter I can see why.

Two notes.
This comes with two washable"prefilters" which are 100% not the HEPA/air filters. The prefilters help your "real filters" last longer. They are just big elastic cloths.

The one feature it does lack is auto adjustment of speed as mentioned. But you can just change the 3 speeds with a touch sensitive button.

After trying about 7 of these... The blue air is the one I still use... Along with a germguard in another room that displays aqi so I can keep track.
If the blue had it, I would just use it.

Tha is for posting the deal!

How often are you supposed to change the inside sleeve vs the outside sleeve?
