Is that like when someone says no offense and then offends the person. Just because you say the onus is on me doesn't make the onus on me. There are numerous ways throughout the year to get 15%+ discount on Apple gift cards....one way right now is to use the Amex offer for happy gift cards and use the happy gift card at Bed Bath & Beyond to buy an Apple gift card.
I don't mean to offend, I mean to say you didn't describe how to replicate the deal you're getting. You have now I guess -- certainly a little more work and I probably wouldn't be bothered considering I value an extended warranty, but you could have saved the post by doing something other than gloating about how you "save 15%" and fail to describe how you save 15% on a forum about saving money. Tone matters, man. I'll give you another shot but don't let us down like that again.
This thread is being way over-analyzed. Why is it always about one option over another, being so absolute of which is better.
First off, thank you OP for informing the community.
Secondly, just take it as another option to leverage your Chase Ultimate Reward Points.
Now you have options, based on your spending, and redemption habits:
(1.5x, 1.25x, 1.05x) Reserve, Preferred, Freedom - redemption rates based on credit card
1 - Pay yourself back at Groceries (Temporary Program) or Travel (Permanent)
2 - Chase Redemption Portal via Expedia on direct travel services or packages
3 - (New Option) - Apple products (Temporary Program)
Separately, can convert points to affiliate programs such as hotel and frequent flyer programs.
Use appropriately that best fits your preferences and habits; some will have higher efficiency yields versus others, but ultimately, just do what's best for you.
"Extends the time period of the U.S. manufacturer's warranty by one additional year, on eligible warranties of three years or less when item is purchased with an eligible Chase card or with rewards earned on an eligible Chase card"
If I also buy applecare, does this extend one more year from when AppleCare ends?
If I also buy applecare, does this extend one more year from when AppleCare ends?
I can't speak specifically to Chase, but Amex and Citi have applied their extended warranties after Applecare ends, with the caveat that the extended warranty is for the standard Apple warranty terms (meaning no equivalent to Applecare+ accidental damage coverage).
This makes zero sense. You can pay yourself back at the same rate of 1.5.
Can't earn points on things you buy with points.
Yeah, there is no logic to redeeming the points for products, even with this discount. Just pay yourself the 1.5 cents per point and buy your desired apple product and have cash left over.
Didn't see anyone mention this, apologies if I missed it, but I have heard before that Chase's Apple redemption is not actually 1st party Apple. It's some 3rd party that fulfills the orders. I have seen some reports of terrible customer service on delayed/missing orders. As always, YMMV, just providing info.
Maybe I'm not understanding, can you explain? From my point of view if I spend $100 on apple gift cards at a grocery store using CSR I earn 100 points, which is equal to $1. If I then pay myself back for the gift card purchase I would spend 6,666 points to regain the $100. So my net gain is $1 (100 points), vs just spending 6,666 points directly via apple redemption offer? Am I missing something else?

I'll throw out an example
Apple GC at giant eagle (regional grocery PA/OH mostly)
They have fuelperks+ which is 6% back as fuel (simplified if you want a book go visit the website and do math)
They had triple fuelperks so thats 18% back as gas + used amex blue preferred for 6% cash back at grocery store..
other options use rotating category CC with grocery for 5% back
alternatively buy a Giant eagle gift card at their gas station if you have rotating gas category ie discover or freedom
you CAN purchase other GC with a giant eagle giftcard.
So I scored 24% back on lowes using their "happy" giftcards which were triple fuelperks.
Previously they have also offered 10$ off per 100$ on apple GC + fuelperks which works out to
90$ for 100$ GC and you earn 6% cashback(or 5% with other CC) and 6% as gas
so that would be around $79.2 for a 100 GC
Kroger 4x fuel rewards would be another but I'll let someone else explain that as they arent local to me.
Best to wait for one of those Apple portal offers that offers like 6 miles/$ back on Apple purchases.
50% bonus is no better than using Chase Sapphire Reserve UR points on cash travel spend through their portal. Redemption rate should be better in some cases when converting to miles / points through travel partners.
tl;dr - 1.5 cents per point is the bare minimum return you should be getting on Chase UR points if you have the Sapphire Reserve. Otherwise, never redeem.

Correct, also why they don't have the full range of Macbooks for example.

If you use points, there's no returns, a limited selection, not great customer service, and takes up to 2 months to arrive (I ordered 2 phones the last time this offer came up).
If you go the grocery store/gift card route, you get the product immediately, earn 1% more, but you lose the extended warranty, but you can do normal returns.

Any difference on Reserve, Preferred, or Freedom for converting points to afliate program -- i.e. all of them have 1 to 1 conversion?
This isn't a good use of your points from a value perspective. I was able to book a vacation this summer, I transferred my reserve miles to Hyatt, and ended up getting about 4.7 cents per point.

Bruh, use the freedom then transfer to CSR

It's better to buy apple gift cards from a supermarket, and pay yourself back at the same rate.

If you have sapphire preferred, then 125% points value gets you a 20% discount (1/1.25=.8).
Reserve would be about 33% discount (1/1.5= .666).
