If you got the Amex offer, then this costs about the same as that deal. Worth noting though, I was not able to apply any other coupons on top of it. Confirmed with the CS as well, no other discounts possible.

With the STUDENT100 coupon, the price comes down to 1100 and stacking with Amex offer brings the total to $980+ tax.

"NVIDIA DRIVERS GeForce Game Ready Driver WHQL" https://www.nvidia.com/Download/d...6268/en-us
Integrated graphics are Radeon (it's a Ryzen yo), so there should be a bit depth setting, but there isn't. Look at the 5515 driver website, you'll see what I mean. If i try to force nVidia graphics those settings do not change the adapter being used. I'm aware this is also a problem as nothing I do gets the laptop to use the nVidia graphics.
No, it doesn't look like win 3.1. That setting can be found by selecting advanced display options which is near the bottom of the windows display settings page.
Also, I really appreciate all the help. Looking at my replies, they seem a bit snarky but I'm just trying to be clear. Really thankful and any additional ideas are very appreciated.
Have you connected the monitor through some other port like usb-c? I think even HDMI is direct to video card.

This is all with the built in 165Hz screen. The only other refresh rate that comes up as a possibility is 60Hz. I'll try with an external monitor via hdmi and usb-c and see what I get. I'll update this post.
>using a LG 27BL85U connected via usb-c defaults to the nVidia 3060 but only 60Hz or 30Hz is available and windows is still stuck in 8-bit color.
I don't think I've ever said 10-bit. That would be weird, right? I'm trying to run it at 32-bit color. That's the mode I have selected (1920 x 1080, 32-bit, 165Hz) but windows says no way.
Why do you think it's a 8-bit screen? No one has made an 8-bit only screen for years and definitely would not be on a gaming laptop.
I think I need a non-generic display driver for this screen.

>Doing a remote session with Dell now. This freaked me out but they provided a direct through Dell link. Jeebus, remote help is so sketchy. They are trying, no weird stuff.
>Still no luck. Sorry for taking up space on the thread, but figure people would like to know before buying.

I meant no disrespect either. Question 1 was to establish the actual visuals you are experiencing. This is because it were truly 8 but or in this case 256 colors it would look very much like old school windows and 2 is to understand where you are actually seeing the bit depth.
I believe there is a misunderstanding of the the panel bit depth (8bit) vs the total color space 8bit red+8bit green+8 bit blue for 24bit color. I think you are in good shape (drivers wise) but misinterpreted the numbers as some of the other members have eluded to.
Last update: 8-bit color depth must be normal and maximum. Apologies for pushing otherwise, I was wrong here. Colors are looking correct. Windows still shows only 8-bit when 32-bit is selected, but it's the same on the old HP Omen laptop. Apologies for taking up thread space. Out.

Not a problem. I bought the same laptop and expect it to be here tomorrow. If there was an issue I'd love to know about it. Glad you got it all sorted out.
How do you like the laptop otherwise?
According to this video review, it's a typo and they both have 3.2 ports. The wifi card in both laptops support wifi 6 and the Killer wifi card in the Ryzen is actually a rebranded intel AX200. There are some gripes about drivers/software, but otherwise both should serve you well as there weren't any real updates in the AX201 that the intel G15 has. If for some reason you really didn't want the Killer branded version of the AX200, you could buy one from Amazon for about $23 and put it in yourself very easily. The screen however, cannot be changed on the intel soooo I would definitely recommend the Ryzen laptop over the Intel version just on that fact alone.

I have the Intel version of this Laptop and it came with the Intel Wifi card which works well and near Gig speeds on Wifi 6 close to the router. The AMD version comes with Killer so I am not sure how good that would be.
