I mentioned the offer to my wife who is a Chase employee and she pulled it up on her internal system. It had a note that they had additional offers if you apply in a branch. You get the 100k points, 1st year AF waived, and a $50 grocery credit. So essentially an extra $145 for applying in the branch.
Wow. No brainer if you are eligible for the bonus.
I signed up for 80k offer just last week. Can I get chase to make it 100k?

He missed a decimal, it should be $750.00. This one is more tricky! How would there be long lines in an empty office he meant?

If you are gonna tell a lie, at least make it more convincing. There is no such thing as $75000 requirement balance for a "free checking".

How do I know? Because I have a free checking with Chase and my balance in the account is nowhere near $75000 and I have never been charged any fee.

Besides, who would put $75000 in a checking account anyway ? That's the dumbest financial decision one person could have made. Even if the checking earn a small interest which is like 0.1% which is basically nothing, you would make a lot more $ putting that in an electric saving for a much higher interest or better yet, put it in a brokage investment account generating 7-15% income per year.

This is the right answer. They do have a checking option for 75k+ balances or monthly fees happen. However, if a person is on the edge of that limit (~74k), the limited benefits from a Sapphire checking account don't really make sense and a lower tier checking account is likely better. And with a 74k balance in the account, not sure why autopay isn't on as a backup in case "things happen."

You don't need the full balance in the checking account either, as you can link some JP Morgan or whatever brokerage account things to your checking account and it still counts towards the limit. So the minimum balance money can earn more than the normal .01% if done correctly but not really sure the whole thing is worth the extra hassle.

That said, yeah, everyone just has to go with a bank that suits their needs. Schwab does offer banking but their branches are going to be more limited.

Back on topic, I hope this lasts for a while as I might wait a few months for a trip in October/November to more easily meet the 4k spend. The Reserve 100k promo was like August 2016 to April-ish 2017, iirc, but I don't think this one will last that long.

I previously had the Reserve and downgraded to the Freedom. Do I have to close my current Freedom for this deal? Or is it not an issue? Thanks.
Having a Chase Freedom card (regardless of whether it was a downgraded Chase Sapphire Reserve) does not affect your eligibility for applying for a new Chase Sapphire Preferred card.

Not sure if this was asked before. My spouse had a chase sapphire preferred card (as authorized user) and we upgraded it to reserve. Does it matter for authorized users ?

Being an authorized user on another person's Sapphire card does not disqualify you from applying for your own Sapphire card. The only effect it has on eligibility is that it counts toward the 5 (in the 5/24 rule).

I remember i had a sapphire (non preferred) which I closed a while back, but not sure its been more than 24 months back.
how can i confirm on that?

EDIT
Checked on CreditKarma and it looks like I may have closed it in Sept 2020
would that disqualify me from collecting the bonus if I get approved for the card?

Scheduled an appointment at one of the new branches here in Atlanta this morning and their system is still showing the 80k bonus points offer.

Going to just apply online today as I have some purchases I need to make sooner rather than later and no longer want to wait until the 17th to see if the in-branch offer is any better.

It's an account I use for my business, but not designated as such and fluctuates from $30-$100k Yes, Chase does offer this. My biggest gripe with Chase is their long wait times to get to a c/s rep. Seems it's all outsourced now. Regarding brokerage, I met with their rep and she tried giving me the hard sell, best they could do was 1.5-2pts fee. She was way too aggressive. I did this to compare to Schwab. Chase was not in the ballpark.

I received bonus points 04/2017 from csr, downgraded to freedom one year later. But in my account, even though csp with 100k is visiable, but no link clickable.

She can apply her own card. Iam AU on wife account, called customer service and removed as authorised user, and applied with few hrs, i got approved for 17700, with only 3 years of credit history and 88k income. No banking relationship. Scores...hovering around 790s

I have the sapphire reserve for the last 3 years. Will I be able to downgrade it to avoid the $450 annual fee and apply for this ?
