I mentioned the offer to my wife who is a Chase employee and she pulled it up on her internal system. It had a note that they had additional offers if you apply in a branch. You get the 100k points, 1st year AF waived, and a $50 grocery credit. So essentially an extra $145 for applying in the branch.
Wow. No brainer if you are eligible for the bonus.
I signed up for 80k offer just last week. Can I get chase to make it 100k?

Cards don't work like that. You can only downgrade not upgrade. You need to apply for it if to get it

Anyone know if hvac contractors/companies are considered home improvement for pay yourself back purposes or is it only for retail stores like home Depot?

If you use Pay Yourself Back, $1,250 (through September).
Thank you both of you. I have scheduled an appointment at the branch for this Friday. When I logged on to Chase yesterday, it said I was automatically approved so lets see if they approve me at the branch. I have never had any bonus points or Sapphire cards from Chase or any other bank. BUT. We did get a BOA card 3 - 4 months back.

If I want to upgrade to CSR after opening this Preferred card, would they refund me the $95 annual fee as it's superseded by the $550? If I'm on the hook for both, then I'll just wait till my first anniversary date to upgrade.
You can do the upgrade. https://www.mybanktracker.com/cre...rve-280145

I'm not sure about refunding the annual fee when upgrading. I know that if you downgrade more than 30 days after the annual fee was due, that Chase will refund you the difference on a prorata share basis. (That's what happened to me earlier this year when I belatedly downgraded from United Mileage Plus to United Gateway. I was 3 months late, so they gave me a refund of $45 of the $60 annual fee.)

You cannot upgrade the CSP to the CSR within the first year even if you're willing to pay both fees. The CARD Act of 2009 prevents unscrupulous banks from hiking up fees within the first year.

"no increase in any annual percentage rate, fee, or finance charge on any credit card account under an open end consumer credit plan shall be effective before the end of the 1-year period beginning on the date on which the account is opened."

and to what?

Is it true you lose some of your points when you downgrade to a freedom?

How are people seeing instant approval? I applied 3 days ago and no communication on status. Will it come in the mail?
Try calling the Chase customer service line. That's what the personal banker told me when I said I was going to apply online since they were only doing the 80k bonus offer in-branch then.

You'll need to follow the phone prompts until you can get a hold of a human to check on your application status. They usually just need to verify some personal info to expedite the approval process (assuming you're eligible for the card).

Got put on hold for an hour or so but eventually got transferred and approved. Had to hop on to a work call after that so asked for a number to call to try to expedite the card in the mail.

Called the number a few hours later and the rep was able to expedite the card in the mail and said it'd arrive 2-3 days later, and that all new credit card accounts usually take 1-2 days to "open" anyways. Essentially the rep cancels your previous card (that was being sent via snail mail) and expedites a "replacement" card which gets sent in 2-3 days via another carrier.

My Sapphire account shows in my Chase portal, and the eligibility/tracking towards the 100k bonus points shows in the mobile app as a line/bar as you spend towards the $4k threshold. As mentioned above, the new Sapphire account doesn't reflect as an open/available option to use yet in my GPay or PayPal mobile wallets. Only got approved yesterday though so assuming that will show up in the next day or two or once the card arrives and is activated.

If you're talking about downgrading the CSP or CSR in order to qualify for this bonus, you can downgrade to the Freedom Flex or the Freedom Unlimited. You do not lose any points when downgrading, they're just not redeemable for PYB or any of the point-related redemption perks of the Sapphire line. If you already have a freedom card, downgrade to the same one since you already received the bonus for that card product, or whichever one you want if you don't care about the freedom bonuses.

I have the CSP that I got last year.

I don't have any other chase card.

Just trying to avoid the annual fee but to also keep my points and it least some of the perks that comes along with the CSP if that's even possible.

What would you suggest?

You can't keep the CSP perks like 1,25x redemption but you can always try to see if they have a retention offer for you first. It's unlikely since Chase doesn't hand those out very often (compared to AMEX) but your likely route would be to simply downgrade to the Freedom Flex or Unlimited in order to avoid the second AF that will hit. Go ahead and wait til the AF hits and ask for a product change to one of the Freedoms, AF automatically reverses in a day or two. You won't get the sub for those of course, but at least you can maintain your points for the future. They won't go away or be decreased due to the product change. You can always product change (upgrade back) later on.

Yes, the wife is eligible as long as she hasn't received the bonus in 48 months. Being on a joint checking account or being an authorized user on her husband's Sapphire card has no relevance to her ability to earn the bonus.

Thanks for the list. Ok well, I suppose you can buy a gift card at one of those stores and it should show up as a home improvement coded purchase correct?
