I signed up through the Chase portal, where I had already been pre approved.

Do they refund part of your AF for product changing from sapphire to freedom?
If you are 48 months after the promo sign up bonus was applied (not when you were approved). You should not cancel the card, rather downgrade to one of the freedom cards. Your credit line will be preserved and the length of credit will also remain unchanged
