I mentioned the offer to my wife who is a Chase employee and she pulled it up on her internal system. It had a note that they had additional offers if you apply in a branch. You get the 100k points, 1st year AF waived, and a $50 grocery credit. So essentially an extra $145 for applying in the branch.
Wow. No brainer if you are eligible for the bonus.
I signed up for 80k offer just last week. Can I get chase to make it 100k?

This worked for me. My credit files are all frozen.
So, I visited my branch, confirmed they are matching the 100K (plus first year fee waived and $50 grocery credit) and completed the application.
They use Experian to check credit.
I then went home, and obtained a one-time code from Experian to allow a credit check.
I called Chase credit card division, and was approved in less than fifteen minutes.
They said the card would arrive in one to two weeks - it already shows in my online account.

I'm confused, what are the benefits of applying online if you already applied in branch?

I think I know the answer, but here goes anyway… I don't qualify for this if I have a Chase Sapphire Reserve card, correct?

Since my credit file was frozen, I knew I could not complete the application in the branch. However, they were able to tell me that Experian is the agency used to check the credit file. So I could then find the information to unfreeze the Experian credit file. I chose to obtain a one-time code to allow Chase Credit division to check my file.

So, I called in to Chase Credit division, and completed the application. I did not know what agency they would use to check my credit.

In order to qualify the SUB, you must not have received the similar SUB in the past 48 months. If your Sapphire account was closed in 2018, I doubt you will get the SUB if you apply today.

If I received the freedom flex bonus in Feb this year am I still eligible?

Do I still have enough time to downgrade my chase sapphire reserve and get this deal? I don't know how long the offer is running and I believe the lag time to downgrade is about 1 week. Up to this point I was only going to have my wife get the card and stick with my reserve card, but now I think we'll both try and get two bonuses instead. Is there better benefit in keeping my reserve for some reason? I think it accumulates better points but probably not to the tune of 100k anytime as quikcly! I have read a lot of the thread and have not seen this topic so apologies if this was covered elsewhere.

Nevermind! I happened to click on the post above and did not think to look at how long it was since I opened my reserve. It looks like it was in 2019 so not enough time has elapsed for me to get the bonus even if I did downgrade.

If you click on the link in the OP, you'll get to the Chase offer webpage. Click on the link described as "*Offer details". The first paragraph of the Offer Details covers bonus eligibility requirements.

Please note that this only covers eligibility requirements for the Chase Sapphire bonus. In addition to these requirements, Chase also applies general credit card requirements (5/24 rule, income level, credit score, residency, identification, etc.).

Many people downgrade their Reserve card to a Freedom card, wait a few days for the change to be recorded in Chase's banking system, apply for the Sapphire account, then (1 year later) upgrade the Sapphire account back to a Reserve account. For them, the bonus is worth forgoing one year's worth of Reserve benefits.

P.S. And they keep the downgraded Freedom account to preserve the card's credit history. No annual fee, so it is free. Just need to use it once or twice a year to keep Chase from automatically closing it.

Thanks for the number . Waited almost 2 hours after recon agent said it is being reviewed by fraud team and no one answered..gave up. Will try tomorrow again. Do not want to waste a hard credit pull.
Phew!! After 2.5 hours wait on the call, was able to connect to fraud department. Card was approved . Spoke to customer service on the same call and they expedited shipping the card .

This offer will end on July 17th, 2021. The branch manager showed me the details on his computer screen.

Sorry, I failed to answer your question about the branch banker. The answer very much depends on their competency.
  • If you are clearly ineligible, e.g., you tell them that you got a Sapphire bonus in 2018, they should be able to identify that as an issue immediately.
  • If their system shows you as being eligible, fine - you're okay.
  • If their system does not show you as being eligible, they can (a) research through their online banking resources, (b) call their corporate headquarters, or (c) respond to you based on previous experience dealing with similar customers. Your answer will depend on how diligently they pursue the inquiry, their knowledge of who to turn to in order to get the right information, and their personal experience in dealing with situations like yours.
So the answer is, YMMV. Cool2
