I mentioned the offer to my wife who is a Chase employee and she pulled it up on her internal system. It had a note that they had additional offers if you apply in a branch. You get the 100k points, 1st year AF waived, and a $50 grocery credit. So essentially an extra $145 for applying in the branch.
Wow. No brainer if you are eligible for the bonus.
I signed up for 80k offer just last week. Can I get chase to make it 100k?

Basically, it looks like Chase has most of its bonus safeguards built into its application system. Indeed, their application system is so fraught with checks and double-checks that it often blocks eligible applications for indecipherable reasons (that even the customer service agents cannot figure out).

Once you're in, their system seems to focus on whether you subsequently meet the minimum spend criteria. If you have $4K in qualifying purchases, the system immediately awards you the bonus. They don't do another check of whether you should not have qualified for the card in the first place.

But that's just my opinion. YMMV.

Hope that is the case. I will just prepay IRS at a cost of about 2%.

The expiration of 7/17 rumor is just for in-branch correct? I have to close next week and can't do anything until after.

So I downgraded the regular free Sapphire card to Freedom Flex today. It is showing the change when I log in to Chase website. How long should I wait to apply for the CSP?
Time may be running short on this deal. Act accordingly.

Yes. It did and as you are seeing, it still does. It will say 80K. You will get 80K and then an additional 20K listed separately. There is a screen shot in this thread from before if you are inclined to look it up.

Thanks for the confirmation!

That sounds about right. 5 point drop when typical reported balance is 2k and you jump to 6k. Even with low utilization. No one would believe me. If you typically only report a few hundred and you jump to 4k, that's when you'll see a double digit drop. Regardless of utilization.

I wonder if its more pronounced for people with really high scores like over 820. Any mistake and they'll ding you more to knock you down a bit. Maybe if you are below 800 this doesnt affect you as much. I'm guessing if you are below 700 this probably doesnt affect you at all. Hard to tell since the scoring system is proprietary.
I'm about 830 credit score. I'll let you know what this does to mine when the balance hits.

Prepaying the utilities for a year (gas/power/phone) can be without the 2% charge. I just paid $500 to VZW and $500 to Piedmont Natural Gas. Duke authorization failed (Duke and Piedmont use the same 3rd party) plus the Duke bill already went out yesterday so zero balance.

Will try Duke in a couple days. The $500 at VZW was because I tried $1K but it said over max limit. No idea what the limit is.

Neither of the 3 charge any service fees to use the CC.

Yeah, that's all pointing to in-branch $95 fee waiving offer ending tomorrow. Any other concrete evidence on the online offer ending tomorrow, too?

Was going to do the in branch offer, but it seemed like I get better value by using my wife as a referral for the 20k bonus points. Still have to pay 95 annual fee, and don't get the 50 grocery credit, but the points end up being worth $200+

I got the sapphire a month ago. Applied in branch for the 80k offer with 50$ grocery credit and first year AF waived. I already spend the 4000$ minimum and received 100k in points. My account shows a 80k bonus and 20k as others.

It appears that the memo going around was legit.

For what it's worth, I got email spam today from Chase advertising CSP 100k bonus online with an "Apply by July 30, 2021." on the email. I saw someone else get the same email earlier in the thread.

Most people are guessing (with no firm evidence) that the in-branch of 80k+20k+waived AF+50 will turn into 100k+waived AF while the online offer stays the same for an undetermined amount of time. My personal guess (again based on no firm evidence) is that even Chase hasn't decided when they're ending the 100k promo and it's based on how many people sign up and when they fill their internal goal of new signups. If they're starting a new in-branch 100k promo (instead of the hacked together 80+20), that should last for more than a couple weeks.

The DPs I've been seeing are that the 50 grocery is the only part that's changing in the branch version. But you're right, there's no concrete evidence.

I agree with most of what you said except the part "it's based on how many people sign up and when they fill their internal goal of new signups."

Chase's disorganized efforts to date belie such strategic planning.

My thought is that the promo will end at whim of the oligarch in charge. No planning. No advance notice. Just an immediate response to whatever the boss wants.

If my wife already has freedom but has never had sapphire, can I refer her and get the 20k bonus or is that only for new chase card members?

You can refer her if and only if you are a Sapphire Preferred card holder.

She is eligible to enroll for the Chase Sapphire Preferred card provided she is not currently a Chase Sapphire Preferred nor a Chase Sapphire Reserve cardholder, it has been more than 48 months since she last received any Chase Sapphire bonus, and she complies with Chase's 5/24 policy. Being a Chase Freedom member or receiving a Chase Freedom bonus is irrelevant. You can go through this checklist of potential roadblocks to her application, if none of them apply to her, she should be good to go.

There will be no confirmation of your referral being processed and there is no way for you to check. The 20K will simply appear on your statement, one to two billing cycles after your wife has been approved. Be sure you refer her via the proper portal. [chase.com]

Lol, I could see that also. I wouldn't be surprised if just went on for a while randomly. I mean the CSR 100k went on for ~8 months a few years ago, even if it was a bit of a different situation. I feel like the CSP is a bit higher profit margin so they might not mind milking it for a bit. Maybe it's just a random dice roll each week by the boss.

Since they're taking the time to update the in-branch offer, it should go until at least mid August since this initial offer has been going on for about 6 weeks. The CSP has never been at 100k so it's kind of uncharted territory.
