I mentioned the offer to my wife who is a Chase employee and she pulled it up on her internal system. It had a note that they had additional offers if you apply in a branch. You get the 100k points, 1st year AF waived, and a $50 grocery credit. So essentially an extra $145 for applying in the branch.
Wow. No brainer if you are eligible for the bonus.
I signed up for 80k offer just last week. Can I get chase to make it 100k?

The offer of $50 grocery credit already expired in mid July, so you wouldn't get it if applying today. PYB stands for Chase Pay Yourself Back redemption option of your Ultimate Reward points. The redemption value is 1.25x if redeeming for statement credit to pay off your eligible purchases in the past 90 days. Eligible categories include home improvement, groceries, dining, charities, and travel through Chase portal. You can learn more how to maximize your UR point value with PYB feature[thepointsguy.com].

Today I got approved at branch which comes with waived cc fee for 1st year but there is no grocery store credit of $50
Is there anything that I need to do to get $50 grocery credit?
The idea in this case is you can get 1.25 cents per point redeemed as credits against grocery purchases with PYB, rather than taking it as 1 cent pp in cash.
Though of course travel redemptions, especially transfers, can get significantly more value than either.
Is there a breakdown of how to best maximize the points value specifically for travel? - either through Chase or through transfers? That would probably be my main goal for the points.

Well, through chase the max value will be either 1.25 (if you only have this card in your family) or 1.5 cents per point if you have a CSR in the family you can move the points to.... then PYB or the travel portal will get you that value.
For transfers Hyatt can pretty commonly get you 2+ cents per point in cash-equivalent value... But there's some subjectivity here in that if you normally stay in hotels whose cash price is half that of Hyatts, maybe you'd prefer using less total points to book via the portal but book a cheaper cash price room.
For airlines you can often, but not always, beat 1.5 cents for coach bookings, often get 4-6 cents a point for business class bookings, and sometimes as high as 8-10 cents a point for first class.
Again subjective value matters though.... personally for long haul fights I usually find business very much "worth it" but usually the jump from Biz to First is large in point cost but small in genuine difference of experience.
Other folks just want the cheapest possible flight and don't care if they fly in a cardboard box barely bigger than they are.
Unlike hotels there won't be one "always best" transfer partner- it will depend on a bunch of factors including:
Origin, destination, time of year, if your schedule has any flexibility, class of service, and more.
It'll give you an idea what a typical/cheapest redemption for a route and class are across all the common airline transfer programs.
Note this site does NOT reflect if a SPECIFC exact flight has award seats available. You'll have to do some more legwork in that regard.
But usually if you have a specific route in mind you can google it a bit and you'll find some of the travel/points sites with specific advice
Each airline program tends to have different rules, different sweet spots, and different "You shouldn't use it for X" type things- and they change from time to time too.
(I know folks dislike that site- and I'd advise folks to ignore the credit card marketing stuff like "Here's why we think X is a card you should get!" but their general info on deals tends to be pretty solid- no shortage of other sites though if someone wants to offer you some other links to check out)
Thank you for all the data points, all the encouragement and some of you repeatedly answering the same questions over and over again. I would not have the same level of patience as you guys do especially @1dash1 and @Tazmania99.
Why, thanks!
I'm retired (can't you tell? ) and I don't do social media. Doing SD is about the only thing that keeps me "relevant" in today's world.
I figure on another 2K, maybe 3K posts, before I become obsolete. Then it's off to the next thing to complement my life ... hope it is grandkids, but my interests vary ... always something to do.

After applying at the Bank location, I was told that even though you see 80K you will be eligible for 100K points. Checking the the Chase app after receiving the card, the bonus tracker is showing 80K points instead of 100K. Contacted CSR via secure message and the person said the following.
"Although your account isn't eligible for the new offer you requested, the original offer is still available and will remain on your account.
you will receive 80,000 bonus points after you
spent $4,000 on purchases in the first 3 months your account is open.
We ask that you trust that this decision is the same for all Sapphire members with the same offer. We feel that adhering to the same policy for all members is the best way to remain fair and consistent."
Anyone having the same issue and can guide on how to resolve this?
I applied in person and I just completed my $4000 spend. It says I will earn 85,298 points on next statement. I was expecting over 105,000 points. Will the extra 20,000 points post later?

My tracker in the Chase app also showed 80k points after applying in branch (in early June), and I got a similar response through secure message. I think the csr thought that my application came with the 80k offer and that I was asking to retroactively match the 100k offer, so I replied back to say that I was explicitly told I would get 100k points when I applied in branch. This was their response:
"I do see that your account was applied in a Chase branch. At this time, we could only confirm that your account would earn 80,000 bonus points after you spend $4,000.00 on purchases in the first three months from account opening. If your account is eligible, you'll receive the additional bonus of 20,000 points once you meet the spending goal within three months from account opening."
I just recently met the $4k spend, and I can confirm that I will receive 100k points (80k + 20k). I get that you may be nervous at this point, but I think you'll be alright and that you will indeed get 100k points.

I do. I called them too, and the customer service rep told me they are forwarding my issue to marketingā¦. Whatever that is. I got the AF waived, and 50 dollar grocery credit.

Great! Thanks for the insights. Hyatt often works well for me. When you say you can often get 4-6 cents for business class bookings, you mean by transferring directly to the airline partner? Max through the travel portal is always 1.5 cents?

Yes. Same here. Applied in the branch. Tracker says 80K and says I will get that 80K (because I met the 4K spend already). Per the instructions to the branches, there will be an additional 20K posting as well. Lets see. I think it will come along.
hello, have you gotten the 20K yet? sorry if you have already mentioned it later, too many posts to read through entire thread.

Is there anything that I need to do to get $50 grocery credit?
Next what is PYB?
