I mentioned the offer to my wife who is a Chase employee and she pulled it up on her internal system. It had a note that they had additional offers if you apply in a branch. You get the 100k points, 1st year AF waived, and a $50 grocery credit. So essentially an extra $145 for applying in the branch.
Wow. No brainer if you are eligible for the bonus.
I signed up for 80k offer just last week. Can I get chase to make it 100k?

Applied in branch last week and got approval within few mins. The rep who helped me apply called the recon number while I was in the branch. They verified a few details and asked if I can move some of the available credit from an existing card. I agreed to move some limit from an existing freedom card, and they approved immediately.
Used to be able to just Google "chase sapphire preferred" and the first hit at the top would be a Chase link entitled, "All-New Sapphire Preferred - Offer Ends in 4 Days". Now you have to dig down to the second or third page to find it (or use a more specific search criteria).
Signed up in branch today, SoCal, $95 AF waived, 100k bonus points.
Came home and MDD CSR, was already preapproved. Looks good to go.
That was about 6-7 hours ago, both show up in my account now.

Congrats!
However, I don't quite understand. You applied and were approved for both cards on the same day? Chase Banks in California are open on Sundays? I thought you needed to wait a day between applications (according to the MDD instructions that I've read)? Also, I read that you should avoid applying during weekends when doing MDD?
The reason that the MDD was discovered/created is that, beginning at a seemingly random date 3-4 years ago, people who did what OgreDave did (which used to be standard practice among credit card churners) suddenly began finding that Chase was cancelling one of the two double-dipped accounts within a few days of opening. It very quickly became apparent that Chase was doing that with 100% of those traditional double dips. That led to people looking for, or blindly stumbling on work arounds. The MDD being the product of this.
TLDR: OgreDave, I'll wish you good luck in avoiding this, but expect to find that one of your new CSR or CSP's gets shut down in the next few days.
The reason for avoiding MDD's on weekends is the possible need for Recon or Verification, particularly given that the verification department is closed on weekends. Not as critical for the 1st card of an MDD, but very crucial when applying for the 2nd.
are you guys using android apps? on my ios app i don't see anything about the 100k points... maybe it hasn't been setup yet? the new sapphire card shows up in my account as of yesterday but i have not yet received any notification of the application approval.
i checked the app today and the 100k pts does get mentioned in the app now. i guess it just takes some time to get it all set up ^•^
Yup, both within 2-3 hours of each other.
...
The other thing is I was already preapproved for all of the cards I could see in the Chase portal. So really all I did was login to claim it after I got the approval in branch.

Bru_that, thanks for the detailed explanation!
The one saving grace for what OgreDave did was that he didn't apply simultaneously. He applied in-branch, was instantly approved, then he applied online.
Admittedly, a few hours between applications isn't much time, but the fact that he did this on a weekend might actually have helped his chances by possibly delaying the review processing of his online application. I'd suggest that there is some room for hope.
Chase sent me a letter/email today saying they approved my application but had to reduce credit limit on one of my other Chase cards for it to be approved. They did it automatically and said my utilization is low.

With the double-dip closures, applying for both cards on the same calendar day was enough for Chase to cancel one card.
How long did the application process take in branch? Trying to get in and out before work
Just signed up today..took probably 5 minutes in and out. If you already have a chase account of some sort, all of your information is already in their system.
