Saw that Camping World had some fishing gear on clearance and I was looking to give bait casting a try this summer. The combo is $80 at other online retailers, so this looked like a deal. Reel gets decent reviews on Bass Pro and Amazon, nice entry-level baitcaster. Free shipping on orders over $99, otherwise it was $10 for me. Taxes, too, I suspect, but not in Oregon!

10% off your first order for giving them your email. My total was $58. Waiting to see if it ships as some of the "reviews" complained about non-shipping orders. YMMV.

From a guy who owns a lot of baitcasters (Many over $300) and works on them... I can attest that this is a great reel if you dont want to spend a lot. My Tatula Elite will surely outcast it. My Revo Toro Beast will out torque it. The Taula SV will cast light lures better than it. But for $150+ a reel less, The Blackmax is a great all arounder that will reel in up to 7 pound bass (my max in Illinois) without a problem . Better that Krap King. Much more reliable internal parts. Cant speak for price or the seller, but seems like a fair deal to me. If youre a noob to baitcasting, Debo on Youtube has the best intro to baitcasting tutorials. Start practicing with cheap 15#ish mono. Dont overfill the spool. Let the line sit on the spool for a day or so before first casting it. That way the line wont blow up off the spool as easily as when first put on. If you have to cut it off, its cheap to replace.
Nice deal! Tempted but I already have this reel. I actually bought the same combo (Walmart) and sold the rod... should have waited Frown

BTW: there's an extra 10% off coupon code you can get by signing up for the mailing list. I saw a pop-up on my phone while browsing the site. If you order two of these, it ends up costing $104~ after tax (at least to SoCal) which is a great deal if you're looking for a couple setups or if you want to buy one for you and one for a buddy.

I 'converted' the reel into a "BFS" reel by buying a shallow spool off Aliexpress. Loaded it with 4lb or 6lb Yozuri Hybrid and it's a great 'budget' setup for that kind of fishing. I caught my first *targeted* LMB (2lbs~) on it drop-shotting - it was kind of dumb luck but it was fun catching a bigger fish on lighter gear like that. NOTE: it's not the most ideal/optimal BFS reel but it works in a pinch. Obviously the other BFS dedicated reels (like the Aldebaran, Calcutta BFS, SLX BFS, Alphas Air TW, etc) out there offer more precision casting and control but they are quite expensive too.

Not bad, but not nearly as sweet as when Cabela's and Bass Pro Shops offered a Blackmax with a Cabela's Pro Guide rod for $40.

The Blackmax reel itself regularly has gone on sale for $30-35. You then have to decide if you value this rod at $20.

If you just are looking to get into a baitcaster, I'd say go for it. It's amazing how good this reel is for the money.

Great combo but is often $55-60 at Walmart, etc. Still, support all fishing deals!

Walmart always sells these for the least possible price if you're lucky. Bad news is BrickSeek almost always is wrong on stock numbers because so many of these just get broken, lost or stolen. Also the employees like to hide them in the back and wait till they can afford them.

$55 is a little high for what this is. I would say it should retail for $55 normally. When you can get Lew's for around $70-99 there's no point in wasting money on a $60 BM3. My BM3 has held up over the years of abuse and neglect and was my first baitcaster. My Lews rod is what I use now and can't look at the BM3 the same way.

A nice baitcaster is a thing of beauty if you know how to use it. If you've never used one before, youtube it before you ruin your day. It's very easy to mess these up bad. Even people who use them all the time will mess them up. If you don't know how to fix it without making it worse, you're gonna hate yourself.

I don't blame Walmart at all for selling them that low. Walmart is notorious for $9-$20 no brainer steals when it comes to fishing. It's a win for them to. If you ever ONCE score a sub $20 steal on fishing tackle from them, you won't look many other places when it's take to head to lake season. My wife hates going into Walmart with me because I'll go through every rod and price check anything I like because those prices on their tags are often outdated and they're clearance that never got pulled. They have so much inventory and people who don't know anything about fishing working there.

Yea the BM3 is definitely a good starter reel hands-down. Perfect to learn on. When you step up to a nicer Shimano, Daiwa, Lews, or even a better Abu etc it's hard to go back though.

Can't have fun on a baitcasting reel without birds nests and overruns!!!

FYI, this could just be coincidental but I *just* received an email from Paypal stating the following:
Quote :
Save $10.00 at Camping World
To get this discount, pay with PayPal by Friday, June 11 2021 at 10AM PDT.

How it works
Make a PayPal purchase of at least $150.00 (excluding taxes and any other applicable fees) at Camping World by Friday, June 11 2021 at 10AM PDT. Learn more about this offer.
When you pay with PayPal, we'll automatically apply this offer to your purchase.
Your offer will show up on your PayPal email receipt (it may not be listed on the store receipt)
You can only use this offer once.
Just pay with PayPal to get this discount
This offer is super-easy to use. There are no codes to remember and no exclusions to keep track of. Some terms apply.
YMMV but the only email address I gave them was the one I used when signing up for their email list to get 10% off, and that email addy happens to be the one associated with the Paypal address for which I received this Paypal offer.

Haha Krap King. I know a guy who swears by KK stuff and promotes it all over the place. He doesn't seem to have any issues with his KK gear so who knows... admittedly, I actually have some KK reels - I don't use them hard though. They seem good to thrash on though.
