Bought this exact set a year or so ago on clearance. I bought two of them so that wife and I could take our two kids and try out camping and this kit is great for testing if you like camping. camping can be a bit overwhelming to get started and this gets you a great base to not break the bank if you want to go spend a weekend camping. Sure it won't survive a monsoon, but it has been fine in showers. The sleeping bags are plastic-y, but are fine. They would be the first thing i'd suggest replacing. We used this kit, found out we love camping and have since upgraded everything. People will tell you how to spend buckets of money on the best gear, but for family camping trips, coleman and walmart crap is fine (and some really good).
$12 for 2 chairs, $20 for 2 sleeping bags and $35 for tent, $10 for folding stool
Still less than $89
I am calculating using ozark trail costs only
Not waterproof
You can try spraying water proof stay on it
Don't forget zipper it leaks

What do you recommend for a better quality tent for four? (Next level from this). First time camper but want to buy good quality tent and other camping items. Kids still very young so don't want to take any chances. Thank you.
Look for a tent tall enough to stand up in (at least in the center) with an easy-up exterior frame. The tent should have a rain fly that covers the sides nearly down to the ground for use if it rains hard. Use a cheap tarp the size of the tent for a ground cover underneath it. If the tarp is too big it will collect water and funnel it under the tent if it rains. Choose a tent size big enough for everyone to bed down with mats/pillows and extra room for some gear (including clothes, shoes/boots, and jackets) and stepping around each other. Use a small empty box to hold a bedside lantern, your cell phones, and needed toiletries/meds. Dangle another lantern from the top center but watch that you don't bump your head on it. Say your bedtime prayers out loud all together before you all fall asleep, and give thanks for the wonderful blessing of camping in God's great outdoors - even if it's only in your own back yard. Enjoy!
