Citi branches have $300 bonus promotion after $1000 spending in the first three months. Applied at a branch last week and was approved. Not sure on the expiration date for the promotion. Might be best to call a local branch and inquire.
So it's basically they'll determine where you spent the most cash as in grocery/gas/streaming service and will get the 5% on that category meanwhile the rest of those categories will yield 1%?
interesting concept. Does anyone here know of any other Citi cards that have a signup offer? I want to go for the double cash as it's 2% straight up on everything -
Did anyone receive a cash advance/loan from your credit limit offer from Citi in the past year or so?

The vast majority of citi cards have signup bonuses.
Make sure you're aware of the various rules specific to Citi (both the application rules and the limitation of one personal signup per reward type regardless of card of that reward type per 24 months).
(also depending on your circumstances, the 2% cash back on the doublecash isn't optimal... pretty much the only case where it is is "person unwilling to use more than 1 credit card for everything, unwilling to do any work to get a better card, and also doesn't travel much"...if that's not you you've got better options)
This "Grocery excludes walmart" and then people getting excited about it always confuses me..
If you're on slickdeals the extra 2-3% you can save from using this card at a normal grocery store, grocieres are usually probably 10-15% cheaper at walmart, just because, thus resulting in a net loss of money by using a high % carshback card at a grocery store
baffling, unless you're one of those people who insists on only buying heinz ketchup at 2x the price of great value because "it just tastes better"
What's baffling is that you don't realize those people could go to their local grocery store and buy $500 worth of Walmart gift cards, target gift cards, Costco gift cards, Mobil gift cards, United gift cards, Best Buy gift cards, Amazon gift cards, eBay gift cards, Lowe's gift cards PayPal gift cards, etc etc etc or whenever in doubt, those visa/MasterCard gift cards for 5% and use them wherever they please. In this day and age I'm surprised people haven't figured this out yet.

I thought gift cards were often not including in cashback programs.

The Citi Custom Cash. Seems like they are offering a better promotion in the branches for a limited time.

5% is based on top spend category for that month.
Let's say, you spent more on GAS for 1st month then it's 5% on that catagory.
On 2nd month you spent more on Groceries then it's 5% on that catagory.
It's automatic, highest spent category each month.
For pure cash back it's somewhat similar (though obviously you can benefit from both by making the categories not overlap).
For folks who travel the Chase card, delivering 5x UR instead of 5% cash, is a significantly higher value reward rate.
