No you dont get to choose. It will automatically apply to the highest spend category each billing cycle.
just curious if i spend $600 on something that's not in any of the categories that are listed, then i spend $100 on gas, will the amount that i spend on the gas gets 5% or the $600 gets 1%?
So the 5% is based on TOP ONE spend category for that month. It is not all the spending in those categories.
For example, I spent $300 on GAS and $200 on Groceries in a month. So I only earn 5% on $300 on GAS. And there is only 1% for the $200 on Groceries.
Is that right?
Yeah, generally to min/max your rewards you're going to want at least 3-4 different cards...
2-3 offering something in the 3-5% range for your most common spend categories, and 1 offering 2% or better on non-category spend
And sometimes which cards those are will change-- for example Freedom and Discover both do 5% in a specific category that changes quarterly... this card might do a nice job filling in around those.
Got the card and looking for a clever way to spend $750 to get the $200 bonus. I can easily spend it in a 1% non-category, but would be great if I can spend it on a 5% category. Top idea I have so far is getting gift cards at grocery stores, but what other ideas are there?

Tech purchases you want may be a good idea. TV, laptop, tablet, etc.
is it true, Citi will auto pick the top categories with the most reward? I couldn't find the option on citi account , the citi rep told me it is automatic.
Has anyone confirmed conversion from Citi Double Cash, they keep giving me the walkaround saying its not on my account but will be on certain date, but when that date comes, they says its not available yet.

Does this promo still apply after the product change? Thanks
No promo for product changes
But I guess $500 isn't really that high….
I thought the same
For example, I spent $300 on GAS and $200 on Groceries in a month. So I only earn 5% on $300 on GAS. And there is only 1% for the $200 on Groceries.
Is that right?
